I suppose it depends on what you are used too. In recent times I have noticed that 1000-1200 people tend to be in the chatroom from 10PM onwards.

Most of the local area rooms have died. I think this is due in large part to being able to occupy multiple rooms at one as well as being able to stream cams into multiple rooms also. Real shame as I think the 'real Swinging' opportunities have been curtailed due to this.
Add in the fact that there are other sites, granted not even half as good as SH, that offer free membership whereas SH isn't cheap, especially up against free, it's a tough market place at the moment.

We used to love the Kent and SE room when it operated, but most of the regional rooms disappeared quite some time back. A year, maybe two years ago; If not more.

i have suggested before....but will try again....I think we should have permanant regional rooms. Such as Scottish room...north east room, north west room...midlands room etc.

It`s an idea but how does that address the fact that people sit in the pool and then enter multiple rooms and don`t chat in any of them while watching the cams ?
I am still of the opinion that cams should be off in the "join" rooms
For years I opened a regional room. I think a host can create an atmosphere where all feel welcome and encourage people to join in chat. You used to able to do this when people couldn’t occupy more than one room. Since the changes and people can be in multiple rooms apart from a hand full have lost that community feel and died. Even in the hand full of rooms a lot of the people there you find are in other rooms.
I believe, since the changes the social element of what made the site great is dying a few are holding onto the social element. I think it is attracting, far more men that want to scratch an itch. These will hunt for a woman on cam dressed or undressed then bombarded them with multiple whispers to show or do more on cam for them. The change in the rules that you no longer have to ask to accept a whisper has encouraged this to happen.
This can be off putting for more women I believe including myself to go on cam even like me that mostly go on cam just so people can see who they are talking to. I have had 50+ watchers recently apart from a couple of people chatting in the room and the ones trying to direct you in whispers it is impossible to get them to say hello.
I have never understood that directing in the room is against the rules, then to take away the rule that you need permission to whisper has encouraged this to happen which has driven them out of view and into whispers and members now have to put up with it.
I know the site have given us the block whisper button but the user doesn’t know his whispers have been blocked. I think if a message came up on his chat file this user has blocked you from talking to them the message might start getting through to those that persistently whisper directions to those on cam and the penny might drop to change their ways.
Those that have manners still ask if it is ok to whisper but many don’t and believe it is their right to say anything to you. I believed this rule used to encourage basic manners.
I personally would like to see the site go back to the old two ways I have mentioned above that it is a rule to whisper which would encourage more to chat in the rooms. Also you can only occupy a place in one room.
I think more and more regular users with a swinging mentality are being pushed away and it is attracting more and more that pop on to scratch and itch. Many of these have been members prior to 2006 when I have looked at their profiles which is prior to change over so don’t generate any income I believe.
Although this is a bit of a rant there are still nice people about who I believe should be encouraged to stay. I have even encouraged a few to renew their memberships and not give up. A lot come here expected a swingers mentality and a lot find it isn't offering what they are paying for which is like mixing with like minded people.

I don't remember when you could only be in one room at any given time. However I do remember when people could be in five, six or more rooms. The problems were much worse back then than they are now, in regard to people using multiple rooms and only chatting in one of them.
However the issue as I see it is the whispering, allow me to ramble for a minute or two if you will. I believe that most people only chat in whispers these days, this is the reason why the open chat in the rooms is so barren. If we were to log into the chatroom now and say Hi in open chat we might get one or two replies, and then have to do all the work to try and drag some conversation out of people. However, as soon as we put the cam on the number of attempted whispers is significantly higher. We have tested this theory several times, and it's the same every time. We are all aware of times when there are 125 people in a room and less than 10% actually chatting. I have no doubt they are chatting in whispers only though.
However we got fed up of replying to whispered messages consisting of only the word 'hi' a long time ago. So now we only authorise whispers from people that ask in open chat. I completely agree with minx that the no whispering rule encourages open chat more and would like to see that rule resurface. I firmly believe that the rooms would be far busier in terms of open chat if this was implemented.

A lot of our friends left on mass about two years ago due to silly moderators and I feel like a wimp because we still dip our toe in here now and again but I have posted here before on the site is dying slowly ,,,needs intelligent resuscitation me thinks

:? :? On the point of the site being free or not. I have to say that in our experience, this is not the case. I say this because SH has a sister site that is run completely independent to this site and it’s free to join. The forums and chat rooms are one and the same as this site and you can use the full functionality of the forums, chat, PM’s and personal picture gallery’s all for free. The only thing to pay for is “Extra’s”
Yet that site is dead….
I agree, I don't think payment has anything to do with it. We've just transferred here from another pay site. We left that one because the chat rooms were only attracting a quarter of what they used to, and the majority of the folk in them were single men who would incessantly private chat you instead of talking on the main boards.
On the upside, the UK chat rooms of that site were only ever attracting about 100 people overall when we left so SH still looks pretty strong compared to it
