The chat server has just been restarted to accommodate the new room capacities. Normal rooms will hold 100 chatters, the Admin rooms will hit 120.

Yes the admin rooms hold 120 - and most of the people in chat are all congregating in 1 or 2 rooms - if you get in - you darent leave because you will never get back! (and that is in the early afternoon!!!)
Whilst youve talked me round about the advancement - its now pointless going in unless you go into a room early and stay there all day!

It's actually an odd pattern to monitor, how many move to the more busier areas.
When we had the four servers, people would prefer to flock to server one just because the rooms were full, and everyone raced to get in before they missed out on whatever they were hoping to see.
Rather than staying in the room they were first in, and waiting a few minutes until it fills up, they chose to cause themselves disappointment.
The rooms will fill up, and become as popular as the other rooms, it takes a little time.

What i was trying (badly) to say is that now there is only one large room - all the admin rooms are openly visible and fill up immediately - if you get in, you darent leave - and if you dont get in early and stay there - you never get in at all!!.

You talk as if that is fact, Gailen, but the new chat hasn't been operative long enough for ANYONE to know that. Perhaps better to give it time and then raise it as an issue if and when it becomes one, instead of making an issue of something that hasn't yet happened?

If the page is totally blank with 'Done' bottom left, I suspect your browser has cached a blank page. Try pressing both 'Ctrl' and 'F5' keys both together or alternatively delete your browser history.
If you are an Internet Explorer 6 user - this can be done through the Tools > Internet Options > Delete Files
Internet Explorer 7 - Tools > Delete Browsing History.
Firefox - Tools > Options > Privacy > Settings

If you've not got a list of chatters down the right you're not connected to the server correctly. It does sound like you're having communication problems, especially if you are disconnecting after 6 seconds.
There's one 'item' that causes this problem and that's a firewall. It can range from the default one turned on by XP to one set up in your router.

OOO so what we all saw as a distinct advantage was a "bug" :shock:
I`m all for ANYTHING that improves reliablity and usability of the chatrooms and I think it`s a bit unfair to say that people who don`t like the new look are simply moaning for the sake of it.
Although, I must admit that some of them are a bit moany !!
I have to say that having separate servers was a big advantage for us because when we set up our own room we could always go as far away from the kent room as possible and generally tended to avoid being followed
Now if we set up a room the nosy kenters will all be sitting discussing the number of people in our room and they`ll be able to "pop in" for a nose or to make some comment and then simply hoof it back into the kent room without any effort.
:roll: So, although I appreciate all the hard work that has been done and I`m aware that it was done with all the best intentions, I do have reservations :P
It sort of reminds of the time they knocked down all the little shops in the town centre and built a bloody great shopping mall instead......It was progress we were told, get used to it we were told. You should see the state of progress now and have you noticed that a lot of people are scaling down nowadays and looking for smaller shops and supliers.
Change and "progress" does not necessarily equal "Good" !!

Humph.... the room crashed.... though that was my fault, not the room. K9 chewed through a cable. Naughty dog! I knew there was a reason to go wireless!
defo prefer the old 'lay out'....can't see the need for any change!!....everyone knew what was what and where. can't see what is to be gained by the merge... and whom its goin to benefit and why ....''if it's not broke don't fix it''....thats my opinion anyway,for what it's worth lol...xxx

There's always a need for change, only recently we changed Chat 1 to an updated version of FMS and now it can take a lot more people, if we hadn't added new servers there wouldn't be enough capacity for everybody.
The chat layout isn't any different from the one up at the moment with the four chat rooms, just one big server with more rooms in the list.

Having said all that, we want to have better and faster hardware/software and some like the exploratory nature of having things all over the place there may be a way to have the best of both worlds.
I'm sure there will be others that liked the longer list of room names all in one place as well, I'll have a think about it all over the weekend, but feel free to add constructive comments either way.
Added: and Kentswingers I've deleted your last post, as I said constructive comments, this is a time for members to say what they like or dislike about bot versions of chat, not for you to take a cheap pop at us.
I'm sure there will be others that liked the longer list of room names all in one place as well, I'll have a think about it all over the weekend, but feel free to add constructive comments either way.

No offence taken, we are trying to do the right thing though, make the site better and at the same time not feck everyone off, I think its probably better to start a new thread, asking for ideas on the third page of this thread isn't the greatest idea in the world
