im thinking of asking admin to possibly introduce a block button on the site, im interested in finding out peoples feelings on this issue before i ask. the block button can be used to block pestly people or people you just dont get on with ie fallen out with. i know you can disable ur whisper button on chat and can change ur settings in people that can contact you via messages. please leave your thoughts thankyou mands xxxxx
lol i agree not bothered about messages lol, just the chat, ive been on a few sites, some free n that option is there. this is the most exspensive site ive been (but i like it lol) n it doesnt have it?????, oh well if it gets more interest ill pass it on to admin, fingers crossed lol, but not my legs lol
Sounds good to us ,we get hassle from a certain no of guys when we are camming, it would be nice to be able to block them when they persist
I can see the benefits of being able to block people in chat.
In the old one, you could put them on "ignore" which was handy but I think the fear is it might create even more clique-ness (yes, the dreaded C word!)and that could drive people away from using that facility at all. Not good for business!
Gets my vote Mands.
It's often the best way to diffuse a situation before it can really start. We've all been in a chatroom at some point I'm sure when it gets heated and rather nasty.
lol if that would be admins answer my reply would be is it in your interest if more people leave, as ive known a few. £50 is a lot of money to join and another £20 for Xtras, there are alot of sites out there that are cheaper and some free that are mostly run just as well as this site. ive been in swinging for about 5 years now, and if this site continues to be of use to me with things other sites off, i wouldnt mind spending the money per year and would pay again and again each year xxxx
I agree, it would be useful.
Looking at this from a chatroom's op point of view....
All of the trouble makers would instantly put all the chat op's on block and then they wouldn't see any of the warnings before their screens go grey.
So immediately I can see that an over-ride would be needed.
As to your comments on other, lesser used sites have this facility I can totally agree how the option appearing on those sites would make it seem as though it would be possible.
I've been in many discussions on the development of the chatroom with admin and the biggest problem with additional features in here is the high volume of users renders most chat systems prone to crashing on a regular basis.
The theory behind a block button sounds quite appealing. However the application may not be quite so straight forward.
I agree with ian chat ops would be instantly blocked and it would be hard for adin to filter the so they could be safe from it...however a few sites n chatrooms over the years have had the room ops doindg the blocking IE you go to them with the coplaint and if they decide you have a decent reason they will activate the block feature.
Can it be done on here, i dunno.
I like the idea of a little more control over who we are contacted by and how. This is something that we have asked for several times when we have been asked our opinion on how to improve the site. It could work, really it could!
Chat-Ops would need an override, but that's no major problem, it's only a simple piece of code. In all honesty a chat-op isn't likely to bother anyone so nobody would try blocking them anyway, apart from the minority of people that cause grief in the chat room in the first place. As I said before, a simple piece of code rendering them unblockable would prevent this from being an issue.
Other block options could be explored to prevent 'some' of the problems that occur. For example, wouldn't it be nice to be able to block certain people from seeing your profile? either as an individual or as a demographic group. Imagine it as a reverse of the current search facility whereby you select the types of profiles you don't want to be able to see your profile, rather than the type of profile you want to see. Of course this might lead to a lot of people blocking single male profiles, lol.
Yes it's true that this might lead people to upload spoof profiles, but there are verification methods used on other sites that SH could learn from.
Last night my wife and I were on cam on server one when our evening was ruined by one individual.
We were sat at the PC, chatting not performing and having quite a pleasant time of things in a very busy room. A chap then started to type to the room in general, insulting my wife. Things like, 'she's only got long hair so it covers her face' enough was enough so we turned our cam off. His reaction? he said 'thank god for that, it was making my eyes bleed'!
Now the problem is that there is nothing we could do to stop him from seeing us, other than turn off our cam. He has all the control and we left the room for a while until we were told that he had gone by a very nice couple we had never chatted to before.
Yes we can ignore his emails, but we cant stop him from viewing our cam, we cant stop him typing insults in the chat room and we cant prevent him from ruining our night on another occasion.
We have had the same problem with this guy for nigh on three years, so it's not an isolated incident, and it began when he didn't understand the meaning of the word no.
We have approached chat-ops about it before, and I understand their position, but they told us he hadn't broken site rules and therefore nothing can be done about it. Conversely we noticed him come into a room we had opened a few months ago and kicked him straight away. We were then threatened with an indefinite ban because we kicked him without reason or warning!
So with all this in mind the ability to block this person would have been a welcome facility last night.
We have reported it before, and as previously stated we were told it wasn't against the site rules. But that's by the by now.
Ultimately it's another example of why a blocking facility would be a good idea. Since we joined this site almost six years ago the emphasise seems to have been on opening up communications. Yet there have been no improvements IMHO to prevent attention from people you don't want to deal with. All anyone can do is ignore it or report it, but not prevent it.
