but the chat rooms would come to a grinding holt without the Ops. It's voluntary and you rarely get thanks for it.

Not sure how long you've been on SH but this type of issue has been raised a number of times before. As Dawnie (hiya hun!) pointed out, the number of Forumites at any time is considerably lower than the number of Chatroomies and most in the chatrooms don't have a clue that this part of the site exists.
Ask Forumites what they think about chatroom issues and of course you'll get a different answer than if you asked people in the chatrooms. They're different species (albeit with a little overlap). The ill behaved people we are trying to reach just never take part in here.
So is a poll worth doing? No.

I'd think again if I were you - Mal knows the site well and is certainly in a good position to take an educated guess at the views of the average user. The fact that this is a Forum posting (irrespective of the subject being the Chatroom) means Forumites are the audience.

Not at all....if that was the case, most people you'd talk to in the chatrooms would be familiar with the Forums - try it one night...ask a few people about the Forums and see the (virtual) blank faces appear.

Hmmm - this really is a "how long is a piece of string" question and some big assumptions are being made here. It's already been picked up in later posts that some couples advertise for singles on their profiles.
I have a different viewpoint than most others on here as I use the site in a different way (only to meet other men) but I see similar situations: why do lots of "straight" men go into gay/bi rooms? Why do women go into "men seeking men" rooms? Hey, it's all about freedom to do as you please and explore new things. Perhaps you don't want to state things on your profile but want to try something different. Perhaps you're more flexible in your interests than others. Perhaps someone you chat with regularly just happens to be in a particular room....there are LOTS of reasons why someone might want to go into a specific room.

That doesn't answer the question at all, does it?
What I am saying (and please do not think I am being difficult or annoying for the sake of it) is that people generally on a forum about a particular subject have an interest or knowledge on that subject. Your analogy would have only been correct if this forum was about say HIFI systems.. but it is not, it is a forum about the chatrooms on the Swinging Heaven site. So I would suggest that people that use this room have an interest in the chatrooms. So I would say that their views are very close to that of the chatroom users.
But like I said I am not just trying to be annoying, I am just trying point out a view. I have to admit I have 2 profiles one as single male and 1 with my partner as a couple. So I not just a single male feel down trodden on... hehe

No a forum poll would not be indicative of chatroom users opinions in the correct ratio because as someone has already said a huge amount of chatroom users do not use the forum....any of it...much preferring to stay in the chatrooms. You would have a poll answered by much the same as the people who have already posted in here already and you already know their opinions so what would be the point?

I didn't comment on the chatroom Ops myself, previously and we have never made a complaint about someone personally, but I know how hard to job can be having been one myself on a different site back in the days of the old forums. (Not on here)
We think they do a good job.
I think our thoughts on this subject have come a close, any the future will tell what people want, as I said before, you will always find us predominantly in the main chatrooms anyway.

Ok I've been in the chatroom today biggrin

And I asked in the main general rooms, did the chatters ever coming in to forum and or did they know it existed......... lol

Many said they didn't know the forums existed and those that did said they wanted to chat real time and really were not bothered about the forum!!

I think the original intent was to have a dedicated forum for chatroom issues, The Café is for general chit chat, Lets meet up for arranging meetings, munches socials etc, and the Dogging section to chat and arrange Dogging activities. To be honest I think there was also a perception at the time that the Café was becoming swamped with Chatroomers posting gripes about the constant failure of the servers, having a new forum moved this elsewhere.

It serves its purpose, it gives those who choose to use it a place to be heard (briefly sometimes) I’ll admit, but heard. It stops the swamping of other forums when a server goes arse up, and it’s a valuable tool for keeping Chatroomers who do use it informed.

My experience of "Cpls-rooms" is that usually there would only be 1 partner present at any time, so, ie not really cpls !! Im married and my wife will on occasion be with me, when some arsy person may just take it on themselves to get stroppy and indignant that im in "Their" room.
The idea of having cpls only rooms would never work, as long as we have women who are sgl, but show themselves as married, and of course, guys who show themselves as cpl but in reality are sgl too.
The real issue is, i think, all play nice biggrin
