Is it too much to ask for a reply in the chat rooms when some one chats to you, we will always say hi or a no thanks when approached but there are too many people who simply carry on as if they are the be all and end all well your not you are simply ignorant ba****ds

do you mean you whisper them? Or do you talk to them in the room?
We think it is down to the indevidual we will always approach with a wisper and if we have some thing to say that we consider private will wisper I think it is up then to the other person to decide if they want to chat in private or public

Not always....
If you are for example doing that in a room that has "no whispers" in the title.... then should you not ask first before whispering, are manners not a two way street!
if i am in a room and people are constantly whispering me, then it can be very annoying, I don't see why if they can't adhere to the rules owners wishes, why I should reply.....
It's interesting that you have entitled this thread "Manners in chatrooms".
If you whisper to approach someone, that is the height of bad manners.
You are not allowed to whisper Chatroom users in any room without asking for permission first. To whisper without permission is not only rude, it may also result in you being banned for a short time!!    wink

that would make the chatroom nearly empty then lol
Since going in the chatrooms I have only ever been asked twice if they can whisper me.

The majority of approaches I get in chat from people who are speaking to me for the first time are by whisper.
I don't take major offence, but I will ask them to chat in room rather than whisper.
I didn't realise it was a potentially bannable offence.
To the original poster though, it is always nicer to be asked if whispers are ok or just say hello in the main room and see where it goes from there.

"Whispers" seem to get most peoples backs up so why not get rid of them altogether!! If anyone has something that special and private let them send a message. You may find most rooms have less arguments and nasty remarks!

I've recently started going into the chatrooms (I used to leave it to mr kns).
If anyone says "Hi room" I tend to say hi back to them. If anyone says "any one in such-and-such place" I tend to reply to that too. It's usually with something like "not us I'm afraid - long way away" ........ain't life just like that !!! smile
I've noticed that quite often not many others replied like this and I'm starting to think I'm being a bit too gobby dunno lol

Rob and Val.... I can remember chatting to you both on the rooms a while ago now, and it was done in open chat, and we had a laugh!
Hope to bump in to you both again soon!
