much prefer the old chat format ........new one is very childishly laid out and having to click on all sorts just to get to read a profile!! .......... In fact the old chat format was probably the best on any site (thats why people used it).
Sorry S/H ....... but the new format is not very good or user friendly - its swingers and ordinary everyday people logging on to use it ....... not PC experts.
Am afraid I agree with Wakey. All the fearures, which are fine I guess, could of been implemented onto the chat format as it was. Would anyone care to say why it was felt that it had to change from the format as it was?
Monday morning brigade I fear Losty. lol
If it ain't broke and all that.

exactly ............ the old format worked seamlessly and was easy to use.
Also whats all that about?........click on someone's profile - click a pic and "similar" tab, then loads of other people's pics appear??............wtf???
Changing chat formats - all coloured in looking pretty , just like the "theme's" which only make profiles harder to read will not increase revenue or encourage people to pay for "extra's" - swingers join sites to meet other swingers and like to keep things simple and easy......... concentrate on getting people to "verify" themselves and encouraging people to fill profiles in properly will encourage swingers to join and pay.
Remeber the "speed dating"?.......what happened to that??........isnt that what a chat room is for??
Keep the old chat format - encourage real swingers.........and you will get the revenue you are looking for.
Makes no odd's to me coz I still cannot chat for longer than a few minutes before what ever I type sends but doesn't appear in the room  It seem's i'm gonna be having this problem forever.. not that anybody cares.

We've been using the 'new' chat for nearly 10 weeks now and lots of members have provided feedback and suggestions to the development team. Not only on the testing bugs but also on the 'look & feel' and new functions.
One can only ask - where was your feedback during the beta stages???

That really takes the biscuit, you expect regular users of the site to do the beta testing for you? Most users of this site are going to where the other people are - the regular site. Yes I do applaud you for inviting regular users to try out the beta site but that isn't enough. Did any of the developers read an elementary UI design book before they started hacking code? Did you stress test the new code before you made it the default?
What prompted you to make changes to the site?
- complaints from users?
- server side problems?
What was your design rationale?
How did you evaluate user perception of the new site? A questionnaire? Or did you just go along with comments along the lines of "this is good innit"?

We are just regular members like yourself - pay our yearly fee, and answered the request for testers just like the other user testers did. So can't really answer your diatribe there, maybe you should ask the question to Admin?

Yes good cams but it is impossible to see watchers and cams at the same time and impossible to go to profiles direct from watchers
and you have to click on approve every time you turn on cam

No feedback because we didnt like it confused
i cant see the problem people are having, im speaking froma developers pov as i am
there is not much diffrent in the new site at all, the change is not just a design one
1) the system is fundimentaly diffrent from the old one on the back end and would not have been compatable with the old chat without a full rewrite
2) the old chat was written fully in flash which meant that it would not work on many moble browsers and things like the iPad, the new one does except for the cams currently
3) the new system auto balances across many servers, the old one did not so could cause stability issues, the new system will allow the chat to grow easly
4) the chat has most things in the same place as before except for the rooms list, viewing a profile is easier than before as you click on the username then click on the view profile, i bet its been designed like that for the future to have extra buttons to do things like 'ignore user'
5) they are breaking away from the relianace on flash which can be very memory hungry and will hazard a guess that many people find their computer gets slow as the chatroom has been open for a while
There are lots of reasons why they are moving, from a dev view i can see why its happening and know the technologies they are using behind are forward thinking open source (Jabba XMMP) and will see the site though for many years to come.
I myself would have also made the same decision as them to move off the old platform.
Try the SH Desktop app as its a nice and quick way to use the chat, it looks a little better and feals faster.

Well no point in moaning about it now then....
An interesting new thread, and we'd like to make the following comments
- Where did it come from ?
We understand the last 2 membership surveys both had large numbers of members asking for improvements to Chat, especially stability/availability. So the 'real' swingers who use this site, particularly the chatrooms asked for improvements
- What's changed ?
The basic software that supports Chat. We suggest that you look on other threads and search engines to understand the basic issues that many many users and Companies have when using Adobe Flash Player, indeed the current spat whereby Apple will not all Adobe Flash Player on any of their mobile devices, e.g. iPad and iPhone, is well reported
(http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/311984.html might help)
- What's improved ?
We started using Beta chat since testing was opened up and apart from 2 instances (known and understood issues) we've not had one Chat crash, Flash script error message, nor chat/room lag since we started.
- Not PC experts ?
Most people aren't however given that Beta chat was available from the Thursday afternoon we successfully operated a 60+ user BBW room that first Friday night which took a couple of minutes to get people from 'old' to 'new' (OK a couple of exceptions that a 2 min phone call with friends sorted out)
- Who tested it ?
Over 770 paying members put their names on the thread
http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/312024.html when it was posted. Yes that's 770+ paying members like you and me.
- It's different, why have things changed ?
Well as explained some had to, however even when in Beta the SH development team were still listening and responding to comments being made by the testers (you and me) both within the new chat rooms and also on the "New Chat - discussion and bugs" thread
http://www.swingingheaven.co.uk/swingers-forum/viewtopic/316764.html
Sorry, if you didn't offer any feedback, and there's an opening comment when you access chat with a request to feedback and the URL to do so, then (to be brutal), tough. Every one was given the opportunity and as several will confirm, changes have been made between when Beta testing started and what you see now.
- Is that it ?
In a word no. As any discussion with Admin/Development will reveal, there are several enhancements already either sat there ready & waiting, or being coded for the new version of Chat. These build on the technology being used in new Chat with thinks that people have asked for via survey's that Flash Player just cannot deliver
- Picture enhancements ?
Sorry, separate part of the site associated with Profiles so struggle to understand why this is a Chat issue
- And finally .......
The "New Chat FAQ" from the Admin/Development Team should also help

Just spent 3 hrs watching people going back into the old chat rooms (thurs evening 14th Oct), sat watching the chat and nothing but complaints about the new one ...........and we thought it was just us rolleyes
And we dont moan - only if there's something to moan about..........seems putting points or opinions across on here is classed as moaning??...........
The new chat room has crashed on me now four times in about half an hour.
At least the old one had not done that for ages.
Does not bode well we are told the new chat room is more stable

Great aint it when people start putting all the technical spiel and trying to justify it.....when in reality 90% of users havent got the foggiest what they are on about - in fact , they dont even care - they just want it to work.
Its a bit like buying a car and someone trying to explain the carbon content of the steel that the springs are made of .......... no one cares as long as it works !! .... they will pay for the car and use it !! - they wont buy it if it keeps breaking !!banghead

There would seem to be rather a lot of critical comments about the new chat format.
I have little experience of it so will not wish to express an opinion at this early stage.
Perhaps the powers that be would like to make some general statement on the items raised so far especially regarding the robustness and ease of use issues.
Saying nothing or hiding amongst technical terms would not seem an option.
I think you miss the point here:
“much prefer the old chat format” – an opinion and one you are entitled to have.
“new one is very childishly laid out” – 5 cams across the top, a central chat area, typing box at the bottom, set of emoticons, Member list on the right, list of cammers top right. (looks pretty much the same as the old room).
“and having to click on all sorts just to get to read a profile!!” – Exactly the same as the old chat – 2 clicks, read a members profile….. in fact it was easier than the old room as you don’t have to move the curser to the bottom of the page to do it.
This is the one that irks – a lot of members put in a lot of time and effort into providing constructive feedback to SH on the new Chat and is totally disrespectful of their time and efforts:-
“No feedback because we didnt like it” – those that took the time during the User Testing to provide their thoughts (good and bad) were listened to by the SH development team and most (not all) were adopted into the new chat or are under active consideration for the next version – had you provided YOUR feedback at this stage, then maybe the chatroom would look less “childishly laid out”??
“Just spent 3 hrs watching people going back into the old chat rooms (thurs evening 14th Oct), sat watching the chat and nothing but complaints about the new one” – I was in the same room (Pool) –, 99% of all the complaints were about being disconnected or that the cams were not viewable (both recognised problems since yesterday and are configuration related) and peeve everyone off including us but these will be resolved over the next few days as the system beds-in.
“And we dont moan - only if there's something to moan about” – A nice contradiction of yourselves there..

End of Forum comments - not doing anymore, just for others to justify themselves.
Not quite sure why site members are taking comments about new chat so personally?!?!
It has so many bugs and problems and should never have been made live until the DEVELOPERS had done all the testing and bug fixing. I am having a major IT upgrade at work and we, the workers, are not expected to test the system - we are there to USE the FULLY functioning system with no bugs as soon as it goes live. The developers, the company and the consultants have done the testing before it gets to us users so we know it's going to work with no issues.
Over 700 users may have signed up but when I popped into new chat when it was being 'tested' there were barely a handful of people there.
Until the new chat is stable with no bugs and issues, the old chat should be reinstated fully rather than us all being booted out and unable to get back in!
... just my opinion of course!

the problems are only showing up under load, there was lots of testing and more people had the possability to use the beta but they did not
there is a point at which you need to go live and problems do arise at go live
The entry to chat not working has naff all to do with load and should never have been allowed to happen for going live and that's only one issue of many. Most of us are paying to use a service that isn't working. Now in my book, when that happens, the customer is refunded before the paying customer gets so fed up they all start to leave.
On another FREE swingers site, there are chat rooms with up to 200 users in each and from the word go there have been no issues with getting booted out, not being able to get in etc.
I like this site and really enjoy the chat, camming etc but this is a farce. Shame really, as the new chat does look to have some good functions just can't stay in long enough to explore properly.

ive been speaking to the person fixing the problem and its somthing to do with comms between the loadbalancer and the chatserver, but randomly happens when the site started to get used a lot
dont rule out that they wont give extensions on paid accounts, somtimes when sorting the issues out then things like that are delt with afterwards so they can work on the problem
lol I won't hold my breath but nice chatting to ya

Stress and load tests can be done artificially, and a company with respect for it's members would have paid a software house to test the software thoroughly. It is quite clear that their in-house software team are not skilled enough to do this, otherwise people wouldn't be having such problems logging in, etc.
It is simply ridiculous to state that 'problems do arise'... of course problems occur, but they should have reinstated the old chat IMMEDIATELY that the problem was highlighted by a large number of members. Instead they use the members as guinea pigs!
Admin have been deleting MANY forum 'complaint' posts by it's members (mine included) to hide the level of unhappiness of it's members. This fact has annoyed me as much as the bug-ridden software fiasco. A company that is willing to hide it's errors, and delete posts that members wished to be seen in THEIR OWN FORUMS, is not one that I care to put much trust in.
Can we agree, once and for all, that it is not the responsibility of PAYING members to do the beta testing? I applaud them for trying to improve the service, but bug-ridden software should not be IMPOSED on members on a "like it or lump it" basis.
Personally I will not be renewing my membership next time. There are FREE alternatives that I am a member of... which never seem to break down!
Finally, unless I've missed it, has anyone seen a post ANYWHERE from Admin apologising properly for the inconvenience caused to members?
Peace
Dex

ive not seen posts form Admin, Elliot is the one dealing with the problems and hees posted in another thread
i agree that if they are deleting posts then that is not right, i run a forum and i know thats not somthing we do
i agree that they could have tested it better but i also know that the old chat has been having the same disconnection issues in recent weeks and that has not been updated, so the problem seems less likley to do with the new chat servers rather more the balancers that are infront of everything as the main site also seems to go down somtimes too
hopfully it will be sorted soon

Agree Bear.
As for the earlier comments from some one about Load / Stress testing, yes actually getting a proportion of those who signed up to be testers to actually connect and test in greater numbers would of been a start, mind you each has own reasons not to.
If any had actually looked at the new Chat when it was in test, they can't but helped of noticed a separate room full of 'robots' posting line after line of chat, faster than I've ever seen a full 'beach bar' or 'pool' move, 24hrs per day and 7 days per week. This room usually supplemented by 'nosy' testers as well.
As for comments about posts and threads being removed, all users are reminded that when they join the new Chat of the thread to post comments, etc. about the new chat. This is the one actively being monitored by Admin and the support/developers, e.g. Elliott, etc.. (Alternatively, raise a Support Ticket has and always remains an option)
Childish design, mmmmmmmm looks remarkably similar to the old Chat.............the reason being to minimise visual disruption/confusion to users changing over from one version to another. At least with this design and new underpinning Chat software we have something that doesn't come with the legion of faults associated with Flash Player based offerings, and SH have the ability to build onto to it once bedded in.
new chats working a treat ..............every 20 minutes - then it crashes and kicks you out  ........ 6 times in 2 hrs !! ......... bring back the flash chat, never had a problem.
Dont fix what aint broke
