If I set up a private room and give my invited guest the password, then someone else (uninvited) guesses it from the room name and comes in, is that bad manners?
Or is it my own fault for linking the room name to the password and therefore making it(as I realise now) guessable?
confused
Im thinking it's my own fault - but how rude!
It's damned bad manners Cherrytree that what it is
I have had this befor and in my moment of rage i foeget the name to report them.
Private rooms are privat between thiose that know and no matter how obvious the password it shouldnt mean its open to the un invited Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Do not think its your fault x
cherrytree i just think its really bad mannered.
private means private. dosnt matter wether people guess your password or not!!!!
that has put me off opening private rooms in the past...cos you never know if your going to get an intruder. do you know if you could use a pin number instead...like you do for a card transaction???
unlikely they would guess that!!! lol
louise xx
totally agree cherrytree. if i decide to open one will use my imaginary friends name rolleyes
like to see people guess that!!!! lol
innocent :whistling:
Can i have a guess please........ rolleyes
Alex.
Cherrytree, we have at times got to go into private rooms but on doing so, we have a star so that the occupants know that we are chatroom ops and mean them no harm or ill feeling, but the abuse we get sometimes from going in there(which is part of our job) beggars belief.
Some even try to kick us from their private room and some just say "hoi this is a private room".
We only go in to check everything is above board and then we leave and whoever is in there and doing what stays private.
heres a link to let you know who the chatroom ops are

Thanks Woo.
i do appreciate that Ops have to come into private rooms, and we recently had an Op visitor and she can vouch for the fact that all went well.
The person who came into the room today was not an Op.
As flower said, as a fem on cam, it was foolish of me to have a guessable password.
Thanks for the info tho.
and thanks to others who have given advice/thoughts on this thread.
Cherry x
sure you can alex...go for it!!!! you only get 5 goes though!!! lol
It is really piss poor manners to barge in to someones private room, but some people see it as a challenge to try and guess the password.
Some people that open rooms with a password do not help themselves though by creating a password that is easy to guess. I have seen rooms that, for example, are called Flowers Room and the password will be "Flower". It doesn't need the brains of an arch-bishop to work that one out but it happens all the time.
I can only suggest that you pick a password that is remote from the room title and cannot give clues to anyone trying to get in there. confused :? :?

OI Why use Flower as an example ?? You pickin on me ya bully ??? :scared:

It was just the first name that sprang to mind!! wink
Yes Cherry it is bluddy bad manners. I had it done to me before I was a chat op and I was livid because the person took advantage of the fact that he knew me and Storm. He embarrassed not only me but the person I was talking to.
I hate doing it as a chat op, but it is part of the job and usually it's just a quick visit (in and out so to speak redface )

Fire xx
its rude un less its me of course now let me guess
im sure i won you as my slave
I would be very annoyed if a member was rude enough to think it was ok to 'break into' a private room by guessing the password. Is it written anywhere that it it is against the rules? I hope people can be banned if they are reported.
I don't use the private rooms anymore. Once I was having a good old cam-2-cam session with a rather lovely young lady when an Op nipped in to check what was happening in the room.
Yes I do completely understand the reasoning behind this and know it needs to be done from time to time, but I found it unpleasant and a mood killer because the Ops on here aren't annonymous people on computers. They post in the forums, attend socials and talk to others Sh'ers.
I'm not in any way insinuating that an Op would be indiscreet, but it is a little weird to bump into an Op at a social knowing they have seen me dressed/playing etc.
Anyway I've solved the problem by only ever doing things that I wish to remain as private as possible on MSN. Sorted! lol
So Kiss!! what youre maybe saying is that anyone you play with are annonymous people ,who you have to kill after it,so they can't post in the forums, attend socials and talk to other Sh'ers. confused
Or do you just use the old memory erase trick they taught you at school rolleyes
Woo wink
complete agreement with kiss, its a private room, nobody should be able to get in it, including ops. don't use em any more, go to msn

You would be alarmed at the amount of times I went into private rooms when I was an Op and found there to be unsavoury goings on inside...
Ops should retain the ability to enter such rooms and I would have no problem with one entering any private room I had made.
I hate having to go into a private room redface
I would only do it if a password or room name gave me cause for concern but I don't like doing it. I am a firm believer in private meaning private but sometimes to protect the AUP, it has to be done

I find myself agreeing with Mallock here; you shouldn't forget that the Ops have the ability to move about from room to room with their star on the shelf, so to speak, which could be regarded as being underhanded. The Ops are there to police the system and access to the private rooms should not be seen as in any way threatening or inappropriate.

I rarely go into a private room, and usually I go in there if something has made me suspicious. To be honest, I hate going in them as I feel I am intruding but we do need to be able to go in there.
How easy would it be to sell drugs or child porn in a Private room if you knew that nobody apart from the people you invite had access to the room? confused :? :? :?
