Here's a suggestion that I've mentioned in various rooms that many people seem to agree with (and have added to)...
Whispers should be invite, i.e to be able to whisper someone you first have to be invited - and invites can be revoked.
Also maybe people on your friends list should be "auto-invited" unless specifically blocked from whispering.
Personally I think this would cut out all the crap that many people have to deal with!

theres nothing wrong at all with the whispering system this sites got its just down to the lack of manners by mainly single guys who think there exempt from asking before they do it and thats what needs to change no matter what system you got it will be abused

Maybe just the addition of a "IGNORE BUTTON" would do the job.
"Thou shall not Whisper"is not part of the curriculum for school leavers.

I think that's a great idea. I know some people don't like whispers and they can be misused (much like anything else if you're so-minded) but there is also a considerable number of members who are happy to accept whispers without asking first.
It would be good to offer the choice, combined with the ignore button. Rather than having to police it, the chatroom could offer it as an option you set on your user profile:
- no whispers
- whispers only from people on my friends list
- whispers from everyone apart from those on my ignore list
- whispers from everyone

These ideas make good sense  It would be a nice useful option
The constant whispers have now made me leave the chat rooms...for a while anyway...and that is just in chat i.e no cam!
It all gets too much, and spoils things , well it does for me anyway!
Luc.
mentioned this a while go and nothing was done lol
a whisper buton that asks for permission to whisper was our suggestion.

Sorry I disagree. I get whispers from all account types. Even when I am busy and put my "no entry" sign up, certain people think they can still whisper me.

Oh, the joys of being so popular Ian :giggle:
there is a web cam site that has this sort of thing and it works very well not been there for sometime may visit again soon for research!
i do think its a good ideal however i would rather see more effort going into making the rooms more stable.
logic would suggest that if you are busy the system should stop coms and then time you out if you are busy for to long to free up the space
Basically all i do is ignore the whisper if its from someone uninvited or who i do not wish to speak to, if they are offended by being ignored they shouldnt have whispered in the first place. It's not that much of a big deal to me, just ignore them. But again thats me, im so laid back im almost upside down lol xxxx
I just ignore whispers unless I want to respond, has never been a problem they soon get fed up and leave. If they are completely distastful I have on a few occasions just copied and pasted them into a room, and they have soon left.
Some whisperers just a kick of negative responses I have found in rooms where the person openly says please dont whisper.
So I have found ignore to be the best way.
Even as a chat room ops I tend only to whisper people that I know but sometimes I do have to whisper uninvited, to maybe slap someone gently on the wrist for misbehaving.
It's amazing how many people take offence to my whispers when I am only trying to stop them getting a telling off in the main room.
So If I whisper you uninvited to slap your wrists ,please take it as a common courtesy on my and other chat ops behalf that we are only trying to help, honest
What would help I think would be to have a couple of more useful options available on the Status bar in the chatroom - e.g. rather than just 'idle' and 'busy' perhaps we could also have 'no whispers thanks' and ... 'cam watching do not disturb' lol
Just a thought ... it is a total pain being endlessley whispered to death by blokes all night especially those that start in with either 'hey hun or hey babe wot you after? or something equally brainless ... rolleyes
Splayed xxxxxxxx
......
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
I tend to find that it's not only single blokies who whisper uninvited, couples are equally guilty. I find that a polite "I'm happy chatting in the room thanks" works well enough. Perhaps I'm just lucky not to have been bothered again after that. I appreciate that it gets annoying, it happens to lots of people but manners cost nothing and a polite no thank you often works better than a stroppy expletive! ;)
I have a note on my profile that I don't appreciate uninvited whispers so therefore I think I'm fairly justified in declining in the room when it happens. wink
The whispers aren't so much of an issue in Forum Chat LucyandMike so keep an eye on the Forum Chat thread and pop in if you feel the urge to keep your toes dipped in the chatroom. We sometimes even get off the knitting topic! lol
