Why do we I wondered. Is there a case for getting rid of the rule?
I'll hazard a guess that it is there to stop advertising, or duping people to click misleading links and therefore open a dark corner of the web full of nasties.
Advertising or malicious links, if they do it you ban the perpetrator surely.
I don't think its much of a problem but wondered if others did.
You often see posting in chatrooms for up coming meets and socials - shouldn't these come under the same stipulations then?

members are allowed to post links about SH socials they are organising as long as they arent spamming the chatroom....
It doesnt take an IT genius to disguise a malcious link as an SH link tho.
My opinion follows:
I don't make the rules (cos if i did they'd probably be the best rules in the world) but I'm glad it's in place and for the following:
A/ The ability to post a malicious link is standard, so anyone can post a link, but if they're aware that posting one may bring their account under closer scrutiny, then they know the risks associated in doing so, if it was a malicious link then they would be at the very top of the 'risk' to their account.
B/ Allowing links, how long do you think it would be before advertising/spamming would follow with said links?
C/ What of links that are not malicious but point to filthy pics or sites of a controversial nature/banned sites or whatever?
D/ I've lost count of reading websites that post up a news item, inviting comments from it's users only to see the majority of it's 'users' span the place with Penis Enhancement sites or how to win an iPad etc, so much so I no longer read comments to news items.
E/ What of a member dropping into a chatroom, posting a link and buggering off, no responsibility and all that?
F/ No links and the chat runs smoothly without the need for having to keep sifting through the urls etc etc.
Sorry, I think the rule of not posting links (save for SH onsite only urls)) in chat is a fabarooney idea, cuts down on spam, keeps the chat running and saves having to deal with constant checking of links posted, long may the no links/url rule stay in place.
I acknowledge your fears toots.
I think they are groundless.
Maybe a week of a "no malicious links" would be worth a trial.
Your other concerns seemed to be covered by the anti spamming (trolling in SH lingo) rules.
Only other link that perhaps might be considered allowed is perhaps for those experiencing Cam issues, is the one for

get asked for it quite often, though perhaps this could be included in the Chat section of Support (FAQ)

Loves toots post. On theAussie site, we dont allow any links in chat. We used to alow Meet and greets... they are SH social meets. But it got its arse kicked after folks, took to spamming it, through chat.
I love coming into chat and knowing that, we dont get it happening, It makes a chat room boring. If folks have links they might mention, we ask them to send the link to a person in whispers.
Over all i would say, the aussie members, are glad we dont have that problem. smile*often* )

Inserts large amount of ground....
Way back then, most of the phone numbers that were posted were unexpecting individuals that had never heard of this site. Similar story for email addresses. Links were for photo's that would never main approval for visibility on the site.
Trolling of links - over and over. And that was when we didn't have a room or a 'i'm a single bloke can i email you a picture of somebody else's wife' room.
My personal opinion (which may well vary from the opinion of admin) is that there most certainly are a number of individuals who could be trusted to send acceptable links (just once) to an appreciative audience. However there are a great number of spoons out there who are totally incapable of reading or abiding by the site rules.
I also have a fear that there are people on here who don't keep this part of their life separate from their family or work colleagues. Take for instance a large social networking site. There are a number of people who would post links from there. Using the friends of friends of friends searching, yes you probably will find me. Thus my family and real life friends.
I remember one such link that was posted. When I met the lady at a social, I told her that within a couple of minutes of the posting, I knew her full name, home address, home phone number, where she worked, her husband's name (oops that bit didn't go down well). I even mentioned to her that her 'SH' age was a little bit of a white lie lol
For now I'd prefer keeping things as they are.

In my experience that a single person suffers cam issues and not a whole room.
Wouldn't help like this be better in a whisper dunno Otherwise you could perhaps find people with working cams and not much I.T. knowledge clicking the link and stuffing things up. Quite often with couples, there is only one who knows what they are doing and the other who would click on the link 'thinking' it would help.
