Why do we I wondered. Is there a case for getting rid of the rule?
How long have you been wondering this?
I'll hazard a guess that it is there to stop advertising, or duping people to click misleading links and therefore open a dark corner of the web full of nasties.
Advertising or malicious links, if they do it you ban the perpetrator surely.
I don't think its much of a problem but wondered if others did.
You often see posting in chatrooms for up coming meets and socials - shouldn't these come under the same stipulations then?
It doesnt take an IT genius to disguise a malcious link as an SH link tho.
My opinion follows:
I don't make the rules (cos if i did they'd probably be the best rules in the world) but I'm glad it's in place and for the following:
A/ The ability to post a malicious link is standard, so anyone can post a link, but if they're aware that posting one may bring their account under closer scrutiny, then they know the risks associated in doing so, if it was a malicious link then they would be at the very top of the 'risk' to their account.
B/ Allowing links, how long do you think it would be before advertising/spamming would follow with said links?
C/ What of links that are not malicious but point to filthy pics or sites of a controversial nature/banned sites or whatever?
D/ I've lost count of reading websites that post up a news item, inviting comments from it's users only to see the majority of it's 'users' span the place with Penis Enhancement sites or how to win an iPad etc, so much so I no longer read comments to news items.
E/ What of a member dropping into a chatroom, posting a link and buggering off, no responsibility and all that?
F/ No links and the chat runs smoothly without the need for having to keep sifting through the urls etc etc.
Sorry, I think the rule of not posting links (save for SH onsite only urls)) in chat is a fabarooney idea, cuts down on spam, keeps the chat running and saves having to deal with constant checking of links posted, long may the no links/url rule stay in place.
I acknowledge your fears toots.
I think they are groundless.
Maybe a week of a "no malicious links" would be worth a trial.
Your other concerns seemed to be covered by the anti spamming (trolling in SH lingo) rules.
