Which browser are you using? Safari? I'm using the Chrome browser on an iPad and I've never had crashes.
To be honest I do find iOS updates can cause more problems than they cure on "older" iPads. Mines only a couple of years old and since the last update the battery drains like mad and the keyboard/autocorrect has a mind of its own half the time. For example, when I typed "than they" in the first sentence, it replaced it with "Texas high"!

It is all sorted now& never had a problem on here since switching to google is about just over a year old but kept flashing to get me to sign into photostream then apple id which was very for the help.
