Whether we like it or not, whether we acknowledge it or not, the fact remains that black, and for that matter any minority race in the UK, remains unique (not in any prude sense) and will always be seeing as different from the white majority by a majority of whites. So mentioning that you are black (be it guy or gal) eliminates the unpleasantness and perhaps awkwardness that greets you when a potential contact eventually realises this after a while of chatting and talking with you (on the other hand it's a bonus if that gets you more chances). Plus when you say it from the outset, you spare wasting one another's time. Of course when you don't say, it's taken for granted you are white, and correctly so. Those who don't think this way and don't give a damn one way or the other are a clear minority, certainly?
