hi folks as i am sat here writing this thread waiting for a fone call that will probably tell me i've lost my job is there any fems or cpls in the leeds /bradford area would like to meet up with me to cheer me up a little?

the answer is yes i got sacked but not for screwqing on the bosses desk......unfortunatley
it was for not ringing in and telling them i was not going to be in as i was sick
That sounds harsh. You gonna appeal? Did you have an investigation hearing and separate disciplinary? How much service do you have?
Did you have representation when you got the bullet?
i was off 3 weeks out of 4 2 weeks due to emergencys (family members rushed into hospital. and the 3rd sick brought on from sleepin in a car for 2 nights in liverpool where son was in hospital.....am contactin solicitor 2 morrow to see where i stand....thnx for replying

You need to check your contract of employment to see what the policy is on being absent or if there is one included in it. If you weren't signed off by a doctor for a specific period then you may have been required to call/self certify etc.....depends on the circumstances, how much information you initially gave your employer, your contractual obligations and whether there is a history of unadvised absenteeism (I can't remember the exact legalities off the top of my head).

You are entitled BY LAW to time off for family emergencies, unpaid.
There is also a procedure that HAS to be followed by BOTH parties prior to any action being taken:
