Hi,
Just wandering as the police carry out routine checks at dogging sites what is the best response to give if they ask why are you there - surely sitting in a car in a public car park isn't illegal!

try
'i heard this is the local meeting point for a wank, thought i'd got the wrong night till you wankers turned up'
should appeal to their legendary sense of humour
I was driving home and my car started smoking so I had to stop on the hard soldier...
I popped into the cafe for a cup of tea and and heard an elephant had escaped from the local zoo.... Fine......
Went back to my car but hell fire it was gone...
Turns out cos my car was grey blue the elephant that escaped took it as one of its babies...curled it into her breast and retreated to the beach...
I had no option than to take up chase..I would'nt give up... She reached the beach with my car and in anxt I dived at it with all I had....
Unbeknownst to me as I dived to get my car back officer my fly ripped...
I know how it looks but im just placing my hampton back in after my ordiele sir.....
'Just pulled over for a quick snifter, officer, fancy a whiskey?'
say i pulled over for a snooze  cause you lot recon we shouldn't drive when tired as it causes accidents

No it's not, but police have the right to question anyone who appears to be loitering. However, you know why you're there and lets face it, they know why you're there too....so use the simplest reason possible e.g. taking a break from driving and don't bve tempted to add on anything amusing or sarcastic, if they ask you to move on, do so without argument! biggrin

Possibly the most sensible piece of advice you will ever see on here, well done for explaining the correct attitude to use with plod in almost every situation, dont suck up to them ...(scuse the pun) and dont be a pain in the arse for them and you will be winners on almost every course they know why you are there, and unless you are outraging public decency at the time or your conduct is causing a problem then the vast majority are happy to offer words of guidance and sod off and let you get on with it.
Of course a flash of stocking clad thigh or a glimpse of cleavage never hurt either. if your female friend is there let her do the talking and flirting . but dont over do it !
Well said Serendipity!

Excellent advice and exactly what we did when we were spoken to by the Police. We and our car were PNC checked too but remained polite throughout and they just told us to move along, which of course we did.
They were polite, although we did get a moral lecture as of course they knew what we were there for, but I see no point in trying to antagonise them. They are simply doing their job.

TRUE its all a game though !! surely they have better things to do and the odd 'blind eye' approach would not hurt

I quite agree and that is exactly what they did do for us. Catching us half naked in a compromising position, they could easily have charged us with something or other if they had wanted to redface lol
They didn't. They turned a *blind eye* to what was very obviously not someone just out for a short break after a long drive or whatever confused
After all, if we were in trouble from muggers, rapists, or just boy racers intimidating us, we would have been glad of their appearance, as no doubt would most people.
I agree with most members here that we should be allowed to get on and have our fun, providing it isn't hurting anyone, but the fact of the matter is, we *are* contravening deceny laws/acts so we run the risk every time we go out there dogging/exhibiting AND WE ALL KNOW THIS and have to take the rough with the smooth :undecided:
After all, if everyone who wanted to break a law was allowed to do so, we'd be in one heck of a state wouldn't we?
I daresay drug dealers think what they do is ok and they should be allowed to get on with it too. Same for people who drink and drive, mug old ladies . . . the list goes on rolleyes

Exactly!
I doubt the average copper does have something better to do, what/where they check is most likely determined by sergeant unless they're attending an incident.
It's a very complicated process deciding where to be. Crime prevention, crime records and local complaints are part of it.....like it or not, many people local to sites don't like it. That's their choice, and right. So, you get the law wandering in to prevent it....well, try to.
this situation is not helped by the amount of people and their cars....as in lots of both. It's further exacerbated by the mess left behind...enough tissues to keep kleenex busy and enough used rubbers to .....well....
be nice to the man..and woman...theirs is the job of trying to stop us without being oppressive and being accused of discriminatory behaviour....not easy.
I always use the "tired and resting" excuse....but a change is in the wind methinks.....
Just tell the police you are from a Gypsy camp and have been sent out to do a recce of the area and wanted to find out how peaceful and quiet the area was before moving in. wink
as a member of the aforesaid service, they are usually there at the insistence of local busy bodies and have to appear that they are dealing with the matter. Of course you can be obstructive and refuse to talk to them but what good will that do. the best policy is as advised above, be polite and go on your way do not antogonise them because BELIEVE ME they ( we ) have much better things to be dealing with. Unless you are doing something blatantly illegal or indecent they will not, nor cannot do anything. To be honest they should not really be checking your vehicle without good reason. It is a sad sign of our times that these busy bodies can command attention like they do but if they do not get satisfaction they tend to escalate to chucking nails down or forming "vigilantie" squads.
Sorry folks but it is the society we live in. By the way you are not doing anything that most cops have not done or are doing!!!!!
Take care

Wow you have just verfied my faith in our police force, you are human after all and not some kind of robot.
Have to ask you though, how do we know when a copper turns up if he's there for dogging or not.

If they think you are up to no good, that is reason enough for them to check out the vehicle.
When we were PNC checked, they told us it was because we were parked near an industrial estate and it was possible that we were up to no good.
This if course was a load of bollox. They knew it, we knew it. The nearest factories were over a mile away, but they knew we weren't about to make a scene about it for fear of making ourselves more trouble.
They could have charged us if they so wished and probably would have done if we had not remained polite throughout.
Yet of course if we had been potential trouble makers, terrorists or whatever, parked up somewhere late at night and questioned by the Police, everyone would be applauding them.
It's swings and roundabouts. They have a job to do and we *are* part of that job whether we like it or not. It goes with the territory so we either have to like it or lump it I'm afraid.

Could be a bit difficult explaining that I have pulled over for a rest when I am up a long track, reached by an even longer track, reached by a very long back road, which even then doesnt join a particularly main road. ho hum.

From the agressive overtones of your pm's to me, I sincerely doubt you to be a Police Officer.
And you comments above are also of a general sweeping nature surely?
Maybe I ought to ask down at my local nick, how many of them are doggers? rolleyes

To be honest the police couldn't care less what adults do with their spare time. However if they do receive a complaint from a member of the public then they have to act on it. Also there has been a spate of robberies in some dogging areas (Barr Beacon was a prime example) and the presence of the police can often be to reassure people. Doggers are never likely to be arrested for what they do.
