Hmmm... in two minds about that one.
To me, a cover has to be quite faithful to the original or it's likely to not live up to the expectation. That said, I recently bought Kylie's new album - - in which she's re-styled all her old hits. I have to say I'm loving it so far.
Oh, and look out for the brand new track @ 6:29. It's dedicated to you! ;)
Not sure about the vocal side of things but in general they are fairly good musicians
prefer covers by Hayseed Dixie though.
you heard nothin yet
...............ouch my ears hurt :eeek:
In my opinion, it should be illegal to cover certain songs. Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb only reinforces that. But I do usually like covers that try to do something different to the originals. Among some of my faves are;
Out On The Weekend - The Men Of Porn's reconstruction of the old Neil Young song.
Raining Blood - Tori Amos' piano ballad take on Slayer's thrash classic
Dreamweaver - Crowbar. A sludge remake of Gary Young's soft rock 70's hit.
The Easy All-Stars dub reggae version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon album.
Summer Breeze - Type O Negative's goth/doom version of the Seal & Croft/Isley Brothers hit.
Joe Cocker's slow blues re-interpration of The Beatles' With A Little Help From My Friends.
Jimi Hendrix making Dylan's All Along The Watchtower his own (see also Johnny Cash doing the same with Nine Inch Nails' Hurt).
Here's another favourite of mine....Kitty, Daisy & Lewis cover the Canned Heat classic "Going Up The Country".
A great rockabilly twist on the Woodstock anthem.
