Hmmm... in two minds about that one.
To me, a cover has to be quite faithful to the original or it's likely to not live up to the expectation. That said, I recently bought Kylie's new album - - in which she's re-styled all her old hits. I have to say I'm loving it so far.
Oh, and look out for the brand new track @ 6:29. It's dedicated to you! ;)
Not sure about the vocal side of things but in general they are fairly good musicians
prefer covers by Hayseed Dixie though.
you heard nothin yet

...............ouch my ears hurt :eeek:

I`ve always liked cover versions of well known songs where the people doing the cover make the song their own ...

I agree, I like Nouvelle Vague, covers of Punk and New Wave classics like this one

There was an interview with Joe Brown on the radio this morning ....which prompted this thread ... I must confess I`d avoided "Mr Blue Sky" but "Pinball Wizard" scares me the most !! lol
i fear joe brown might do dark side of the moon :censored:
Just listened to Joe Brown singing "when I am dead and gone" it sounded depressing.
So I have now put on my original version McGuinness Flint and am dancing love love this song and told my kids to play it at my funeral and have a dance. lol
Flower I miss our old music Friday night room on here when I use to play all the requests they were a laugh.
Maybe we should start those again.

The Flying Lizards did some classics !! lol
Scissor Sisters, Comfortably Numb actually worked for me although it took a couple of goes for me to get used to it......
But ...this !!
Not sure yet ....what do you think ?

There are many cover versions that I like and don't like, "Born under a bad sign", most notably performed by Cream in the sixties, was good; but for me, the Hendrix version is by far, just for sheer improvisation, the best:

wink
In my opinion, it should be illegal to cover certain songs. Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb only reinforces that. But I do usually like covers that try to do something different to the originals. Among some of my faves are;
Out On The Weekend - The Men Of Porn's reconstruction of the old Neil Young song.
Raining Blood - Tori Amos' piano ballad take on Slayer's thrash classic
Dreamweaver - Crowbar. A sludge remake of Gary Young's soft rock 70's hit.
The Easy All-Stars dub reggae version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon album.
Summer Breeze - Type O Negative's goth/doom version of the Seal & Croft/Isley Brothers hit.
Joe Cocker's slow blues re-interpration of The Beatles' With A Little Help From My Friends.
Jimi Hendrix making Dylan's All Along The Watchtower his own (see also Johnny Cash doing the same with Nine Inch Nails' Hurt).
Here's another favourite of mine....Kitty, Daisy & Lewis cover the Canned Heat classic "Going Up The Country".

A great rockabilly twist on the Woodstock anthem.
