......I`m tempted by the silly little sports cars but what the fuck am I gonna do if I need to move a washing machine rolleyes

Spend £30 and hire a van for a morning
Being a practical kind of person, I would buy the car more likely to drive me from A to B with a large enough boot to carry large kit bags. Which is cheap on fuel and less likely to break down after a couple of months.
But as I don't drive, I really haven't a clue what I am on about. wink

So ...lets imagine you have a maximum of £2000 to spend on a car to last you for the next couple of months lol
There`s so much stuff just sitting there for the taking ...what would you buy ?
I`m torn ....I`ve ssen mx5`s , mr2`s at one end of the scale and pajero`s and shoguns at the four wheel drive ...do it all ... end

if its only gotta last a couple of months buy something cheap say £500 and save the rest of the money for a better car later

I'm running a £500 car and have had it 9 months now and plan to keep it for at least another 12 months...
Only money spent on it has been routine servicing....
Flew through the MOT....
There's a lot to be said for cheap and cheerful cars :-)
MX5, my next car.
Motoring isn't much fun these days, petrol prices, insurance, state of the roads and speed cameras bloomin everywhere.
So, buy a Smart , functional, cheap to run, £30 tax, insurance is very low, handles the roads well and although they're quite zippy they're not speed merchants and above all it puts a small amount of fun back into motoring.
Granted you wont get a washer in the back of one but it's a small price to pay. lol

What this man/woman said. Definitely the advice I'd give.
However I'm assuming that since you're talking about fun cars as well, you're something of a motor enthusiast, much like myself, and this advice will probably fall on deaf ears, as it would for me.
Buy the fun car now and enjoy it over the summer months. Depreciation over that time will be minimal unless you buy a rotter and everything goes wrong on it before you sell it on, but all being well the chances are you won't lose much (if any) money you put into a £2k car now if you sell up in a few months.
I wish I had £2k for a car right now... Mine was stolen last week. SORN'd and uninsured too, so I've nothing to fall back on.
2 grand would get you a half decent mk4 Astra convertible or BMW 3 Series E46 Saloon, they would be my choices.
Stick to a similar sort of procedure as you would if you were thinking of replacing your wife. Check out the chassis...check all lubrication points, make sure it's comfy when you get inside and is easy to handle; also make sure you can turn it on and off just when you want, and that it's cheap to run..quite important that one. Now if you can get a reliable service history you should be good to go. Good luck.
My current car, a P plate petrol mondeo, was bought for £600 2 yrs ago, and has been brill.
Won't spend fortunes on cars now, whats the point?, to sit on the drive all day or a car park.
But, for 2 grand, i'd go for a mondeo.

My GF just got one of them, and although all the above is true, please be aware that they do require an engine rebuild every 60,000 miles even if you do get them serviced every 7,000 miles as recommended. (Sooner if you rag 'em and don't service).
Hers was an ex-courtesy car so we know the service history is valid.

Um, nah, we've got one, had it from new 2004,(tis the Passion) 78k, always serviced via the spanner indicator and it's been all over the UK and Europe (er, not me driving it) and no worries with the engine or at least it's never been replaced/rebuilt or broke down.
Having said that it is currently sitting in the back garden collecting dust, my man wont sell it but no longer has interest in driving it so there it sits along with a variety of other heaps of metal. I have to keep moving it around the place so I can put the washing out.

rotflmao
and smackbottom for having a back yard big enough to drive a car in - even though it's a miniature one! Just jealous.

Oooh i'll take the spanking lol
Trust me, men when they see a space usually want to fill it (pun intended) and right now there is no space in that particular garden due to the Smart and a selection of other vehicles that he terms collectables/projects (junk to me) taking up the room. I would love dearly a small, bijou even, garden with no vehicle access that I could call my own  I have got one garden at the rear but a stream runs thorough which with young chillun is far from ideal.
There are gardens and there are scrapyards, my man seems to have combined the two.
For only 800 ish you could hire one that would actually be decent for only a month .... Love cars and they say lots about you I think? Mines here say I've a small penis and I'm a tosser when out in them lol
Harsh and it's not small ... So ... If your date rolls up in a 500 quid Mazda ... Is he on for a 2nd then?
Cheers
J

That sounds like the most logical and sensible thing to do I would have said Rob.
A simple bit of logic.
Errrr...
... can anyone explain why this is under the "Let's talk about sex" heading?? confused::?::?:
Well there are one of two reasons:
1. He's going to have sex in the back of it.
2. The thread was opened before the forums were shunted around and slipped under the radar.
My vote is for number 2.

2 grand .... we got a Subaru Legacy .. practical and with a 2lt twin turbo engine quite fun too: the petrol bills are enough to make a grown man weep though ( and quite frequently do)
Can 2 grand actually buy you anything nowadays?
Give the Tories another 3 years and 5 grand won't be worth much and you certainly will not be able to afford to drive a car. lol
Save your money and keep fit..........buy a dog. :bounce:

why?
'Cos you can one free...
Staggs will tell you how.
Too many in rescues in need of a home innit Stevie. No need to buy one ( though there may be rehoming fees from a rescue, not quite the same thing ), and encourages more breeding by the unscrupulous who see it purely as income with little in the way of dog welfare in terms of care shown to the dog, or the selectivity of their breeding as far as genetic defects go in pedigrees, beyond that which that generates a profitable sale.
Not a comment on the good breeders out there that BTW, just for the avoidance of any doubt.
So some kind fella will just come along and give me an 9 to 13 week old puppy German Shepherd?
Now I do believe in fairies.

Noooooooooooo not like that. lol
