Toots,
Yes...I find the fact that you call someone elses opinion utter claptrap....then laugh and sneer, and snort at this opinion as condescending.
Yes...The fact that you choose to tell ME what I really meant as condescending. When I clearly state again what I meant and you say, I don't believe you...is calling me a liar...I find that offensive. You may be surprised to know I know my own mind.
In the other thread to which you refer, I asked you a question...yes ..repeatedly.... you chose not to answer it. That's not being condescending...that's asking a question !!!
Have I called your comment claptrap? Have I said I laugh and snort at your comments? No because though I may vehemently disagree with may, I would always respect other peoples right to have those opinions ( so long as with the law ).

I hate seeing a grown man cry, please don't *smiling*
You're being argumentative for the sake of it or you appear to have read something into a comment that just isn't there? read back and you'll note I didn't refer to you specifically as spouting claptrap but more that 'your comments were nothing more than themainstream claptraphanded down by the masses. It's OK, I don't need an apology but methinks in the interest of keeping what is an excellent topic live (as opposed to locked) I'll step out real neat like.
So the fact that you say YOU are spouting the usual mainstream claptrap...wasn't referring to me then !!!
Its the use laughing....snorting...smiling....that shows the ..oh I am mightier and better than you and sneer in your direction, patronising view.
And yes an apology for telling me, that I don't mean what I have written ( ie I am a liar ) would be well in order.
I respect you have a view, and your right to say and write it. Maybe you will offer others that same respect in the future, instead of trying to ridicule and patronise them.
Please play nice folks or this topic will be LOCKED,You have been advised....

Granted you dont pay any bills, but there is not much else you can do.

They live, they breathe, they experience, all of which they denied their victim, I wonder how many murderers have thought, 'doesn't matter the crime, I'll still be ok even if/when caught'

Also shouldn't prison be about rehabilitation?

Rehabilitation via the prison system is a joke, one only has to pick the bones of this report
to see just how ineffective rehabilitation to some is....and in the case of a murderer rehabilitation it would need to be absolute but cleary it isn't and as such flawed.

prevention is better than cure? Or do you believe because someone has made a mistake they should pay for it forever?

Do you?
In the case of a premeditated murderer, one who has sat down, thought about their crime, worked out every detail of it ( Sutcliffe etc ) and gone on to commit that crime? and many of them at that...and they are worthy of a second chance?

I know we are talking about capital punishment in this thread and therefore I believe my punishment of never gaining ones freedom is just. Though for this to work the way prisons are organised has to change.

So in the interim and while the prison system continues to fail/fall short ( Like it's ever been any different) we lock up a murderer for life and allow them the courtesy of all the failed prison system has to offer? we're back to the cushy part again. Flip it, how about all murderers are executed until such time as the prions system gets it's act together and is seen as a viable deterrent? How long you think we'll be waiting? Looooong time.

Regretably, if that does happen, I wont be around to see it. EU meltdown? why do you think that? Putin was always going to flex his muscles at some point, he's a tyrant for gawd sake and playing up to the world stage. But he's had a bloody nose and the politics that is currently going on is geting a Russian withdrawal without there appearing to be an embarrassing climbdown. Just shows that the Russian war machine can be brought to its knees by sanctions.
Sorry, slightly crossed purposes, I don't do Putin Politics tactics very well and neither am i proficient enough on the politics side, bit fick me but by meltdown I mean on the economic front, the EU we currently have is fragile in it's existence, it would only take for one member state ( Greece/Ireland both came close and Greece may still happen)
to ignore the bullying Merkels of this world and exit the EU and the knock on may just be others EU members seeing the route out and taking it, in my opinion the EU in it's current form will cease to exist within the next ten years (best crack on wiv me move to sunnier climes sharpish i reckon) and it will either become more efficient/sharper or sink into the abyss.

I wrote MOVE, therefore travelling towards, I didnt say it was already a given that the populace would vote against capital punishment. But to extract a section of the summary in that article you posted;
"By 45-39% people tend to support the reintroduction of the death penalty for murder.
Support has been dropping steadily - in 2010, 51% were in favour and 37% opposed, and people born after 1964, in the 18-39 age bracket, tend to oppose its reintroduction. This may suggest that we are approaching a moment when people will tend to oppose it, but we are not there yet."
Therefore the stats you posted tend to show a move towards opposition and not the supporting of re-introduction.
Give it another 10 years and then see what the stats say.

I posted that link for a couple of reasons, one for the stats, the other because the stats may be flawed, Yougov is internet based, they target their collective audience via the internet, there is an argument offered that their polls are not representative of the population, it's generally accepted that the older generation are less in touch with the internet and so any stats offered are distorted? You could argue that the 18-39 bracket isn't truly representative either, depending on who has the internet at home, were the 'stats' taken on a broad spectrum of internet users of from colleges/Uni's and the useless facebook...it's all horse for course, in my opinion if you were to drop into any middle england town centre and ask the simple question ' Would you like the DP reintroduced for Child Murderers/ Terrorists (sorry, had to use that term) Police murderers' I suspect the majority answer (and by some margin) would be a resounding 'YES!

Being an ex-scientist and engineer, I'm very good at turning theory in to proof...and thereby I am sure I can contribute to getting that supportive evidence for you...
