A European Union plan to introduce MOT-style testing for caravans is being resisted by the government.
The proposal would result in caravans weighing more than 750kg being required to undergo regular checks.
The measure would affect many of the estimated 510,000 caravans in current use in the UK, with only the smallest two-berth models excluded.
The Caravan Club, which represents 375,000 families across the UK, argues that its members often have young children and are highly likely to regularly service their caravans for safety reasons. A Club spokeswoman said: "The club will always support practical and effective measures aimed at improving road safety"
All for it, works for Cars, Trucks, Trailers, Motorhomes, etc.
Certainly help getting rid of some of the 'sheds' we all see being trundled around the roads, caravan tyre blow outs due to being stood 50 weeks on deflated tyres.
Please means Top Gear can be more imaginative in dealing with those finally scrapped on safety grounds.
lol
As a former caravaner myself I agree with having caravans subjected to annual inspections...
Lets be fair.....There isn't a lot to look after so it wouldn't cost much to make sure it's in good order...

ohhh love it, caravan with a balcony, how very des res :giggle:
I think I'll pass on this new home after all.
Having to go the long way round out of my village every day would get irritating. Low bridge out of the quick way.
lol i work for a caravan dealership and personally i think people should be taught how to tow and manouvre a caravan as well as the van being serviced and kept roadworthy, its like all road vehicles its not just your own life you have in your hands but other road users

I find myself utterly horrified to have found myself a member of the caravan club.
Horrified.
But ridiculously excited to have a share in a campervan! He's fucking brilliant! :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
I may have to accept that I've jumped into middle age in the shape of a little card that's in my purse (hidden at the back!) but you can be damn sure I'm going to have the most fun jumping in him and fucking off for the weekend whenever I fancy! Hurrah!
:smug: :smug: :smug:
EDIT: Oh and I think that caravans should have an MOT of sorts if no-one is checking they are roadworthy already! Shocking given some of the skips I've seen on tow! :scared:
