This one seems a bit uppity to me.
Talk about minorities not knowing their place and how to fit in.
I don't have a problem with most of them its the ones who (please feel free to insert any hate figure you wish but bear in mind not everybody agrees with your opinion).
if she has been turned down for 25 jobs, is it not time for her to rethink her line of employment?
Also if she sues all of these employers, that's 15000 x 25 plus the undisclosed amounts; she could amass enough to live on for the next 20 years or so.
this is another form of hypocrisy or whatever.
muslims are significantly responsible for the use of alcohol.
why you ask in incredulity?
its because they make such tasty curries. and no decent curry can be consumed without a beer.
and there you have it. plot the growth of alcoholism against the curry industry and i bet the are neck and neck!
Why I wonder is there this apparent need on the behalf of some sections of both the press and society as a whole, to find examples of 'muslim' racism...I'm sure we are all aware that these things happen, I'm sure that there are black, white, yellow, whatever colour people who dislike other races...I have no doubt that the reporting one pitiful example is used to excuse the bigotry of many...I'm also sure that there is no excuse for racism of any sort.
The problem we have however is that given that we live in a predominantly white anglo-saxon nation, the minorities tend to suffer the consequences of racism more than the the example from the telegraph I have no doubt the woman in question soon found a taxi (probably driven by a muslim) that would carry her ,a little inconvenient possibly but not earth shattering, the example of the young woman refused a job because of her headgear is I would suggest a little more serious....if not ridiculous,I for one have seen more than one male hairdresser in a hat,it strikes me as odd that their hats don't stop them working but apparently a scarf will.
All minority groups need to defend their rights jealously....recent history suggests no-one else will do it for them ,and that is a damn shame
Or even The Natalie Portman
If you took your car to the garage for a service, and the mechanics own car was a complete bucket, would you feel happy with him working on your car?
The thing we missing here, that is totally different to the thread thou, is ....the girl at the hairdressers was not discriminated against because of her colour..her sexuality..or age..or religion..It was simply the company had an image profile and she didn't fit it. This is true at many work places. If you went to an interview at a Bank dressed in a donkey jacket, sneakers and jeans with multipule pierceings on show.....it would not matter, the fact you had a degree passed with flying colours in econimics, they would not offer you the job, unless you were willing to wear a suit, or at least what they would call smart clothing. Equally if you turned up to work in an alternative clothing shop, in a suit, they would not offer you the position. Most companies, especially those that have to work with the general public, have a specfic company image they wish to portray. Unless you are willing to adapt to that, you will not be getting the job.
Aye Dean but lines have to be drawn. Do you recall the case of unfair discrimination by a trendy shop that refused to let a young lady with a prosthetic arm serve customers? I believe she won her case too.
Quite where you draw the line I am not sure.
its a very fine line BEN ..... would a lap dancing club employ a 60 year old ?....doubtful !! Is that ageism...probably is....but at same time the club needs customers to survive, and rightly or wrongly customers are a certain pre-concieved image of what the girls will look like when they go into a lap dancing club. I am not saying its right we judge a book, by its cover, but I think we all to a degree do. We have met Ben now on a number of occassions, and let me tell anyone that doesn't know, Ben is a Giant of a guy....but as gentle, and compassionate guy you could not wish to meet....with a great conversation and interlect. Yet I admit if I didn't know you, and saw you out in a bar, and not knowing you, I don't think that would be my first impression of you. We all make judgements. We all expect certain things in places. We expect people in banks to be smart...we expect people in clothes shops to be young and trendy.....I'm not saying it right.....but if we honest we do all make these assumptions. I hold my hands up and say I do. I just like to think I am open minded and when I have actually met someone I can re-adjust my evalueation.
So are we saying that in one way or another, we are all guity of judging a book by it's cover, because I know I am, i'll admit to that. TBH, I think we ALL do it, it's a human reaction.
As for the asian girl in the headscarf trying to get a job in a hairdressers, I reckon it was just a ploy for a claim, but that's the cynic in me.
However, the bus route I drive goes through an asian road thats full of asian hairdressers, and ive not seen a asian hairdresser wearing a headscarf.
I wouldn't employ a mechanic who turned up to work in an Armani suit. That's for sure!
i think the charge of 'indirect racism' is also unfair. that seems to have been thrown in for good measure as some kind of acknowledgement to the sensibilities of the situation.
In what way was it proved to be?
So for those who support the legal case against the couple with the B&B, I trust they would support similar legal action and criminal convictions against the owners of these following hotels who openly state on their websites they are Gay Only?
There are 100s of these advertised on the internet. I just picked on the first few links Google threw up.
The more I think about this B&B case the more I believe it was a Stonewall setup. Look at the B&B's website and they clearly state on their booking form what guests they want . Is this any different to "gay only" requirements for the other hotels?
What these minority groups have to accept is that if they want equality then they have to reciprocate it unless they really believe some are less equal than others (which seems to be the case, as defined by our ridiculous laws).
