Should we be able to vote Online?

Should a secure system of voting online be instituted to replace the Postal vote and increase the voter 'Turnout' for future e-lections in the UK?
Rob I have removed he repeat poll...
What about registered votes by mobile? Would that work? Or to open to abuse.
One of the problems with anything governmental is hackers love to have a go at these sort of sites. Get viruses downloading docs too!!
Would certainly increase voters but I'm not sure I would feel okay with my personal details on-line.
What about electronic polling booths based in banks or post offices????
Our system is outdated and needs a change that's for def!

Ah an ID card and pin.
True T-mann! Hadn't thought of that...
I'm against ID cards so maybe not!! confused :? lol
We used to have id cars during/after the war I believe - perhaps for different reasons than today?
yes I recall Nasty bits of off brown card.
Yup, be useful for referendums as well.
There has been abuse of voting in the past and clearly the present system is strained and in some cases collapsing as we have seen last night.
Online Banking, Utillity bills, etc are dealt with online by millions now in the UK.
imo, Online voting should be added to our 'dot-com' way of life.
Something has to change and i hope the new 'regime' has the resolve to give it a try.
Not everyone has a mobile phone or internet (my parents and many of their friends for example)
So anything that is implemented must ensure that we do not disenfranchise people

I would advocate online voting as another choice of voting method to relieve the pressure on the existing system which is clearly not able to cope.
With the governments record in the realm of I.T. it would take 15 years to put in place, cost 3 times as much as the planet and give everyones vote to one confused no......the current system has worked well for 100 odd years and dealt with much higher turnouts than last night....the problem lies not in the system but in it's implementation
LOL stag I had entirely overllooked the governments appalling IT history.

Voting by SMS and online was trialled five years ago - the only objections were not technical, but from self interested politicians who don't like high turnouts.
