Anyone have any experience of them ?
I've seen them about being used etc but never used one myself..
Are they good/bad/indifferent for you ?
Are they simply an alternative method of killing yourself (and more expensive it seems than tobacco cigarettes) ?
Would welcome replies from anyone who can shed a little light on them for me
Ta Muchly :-)
I've got one. I quite easily swapped from smoking normal cigs to the e cig. There was an offer on at the time where it was only about 20 quid for the starter pack, I used it for a few weeks but you are just changing what you are addicted to so I then got the mints and then gradually cut those down. It makes it a lot easier than doing cold turkey x
Was thinking of getting one as an aid to quitting....
I'm finding having nothing to do with my hands ( :rascal: ) is half the problem with quitting smoking...
Thanks PK kiss
I've used one since march and not touch a real ciggie since. I get all my stuck from
the imitation ciggies are usually the most expensive in the long run. the tank style units seem expensive to start with but once you have a collection of fluids, it will last for months.
My mother has stopped (heavey smoker), Mrs Lilly has stopped and a couple of people here that I pointed in the e-cig direction have stopped also.
Tried e-Lites a few times. I bought the starter pack and a few tips from the www, but my local corner-shop started selling them about two weeks after that. Personally I don't rate them. The 'smoke' is harsh and tastes slightly antiseptic. I don't think they have much nicotine in them either.
I bought a Vapestick from Tesco Pharmacy and what a difference. Lovely nutty taste and a good hit. However, it ran out after a day as I just kept puffing on it. At £10 it ended up costing more than 20 cigarettes.
I think what most offends me about e-cigs is that they are just as vilified as normal cigarettes in public, so, ultimately pointless.

The menthol ones are nicer, know what you mean about the taste but could smoke the menthols quite happily. Mrs Tweeky had them for a while after smoking on holiday and they worked well for her.
Some interesting viewpoints and alternatives....
I've ordered an E-Lites starter pack this afternoon....
Let's see if they help or hinder me :lol2:
Thanks everyone
Last October I stopped using Champix, it went pretty well until January when I had a mad moment and had a cigarette, from there I crept up to my previous level, I decided to quit again after our May holiday and had my last cigarette before we boarded, I haven't had one since smile
I used patches for a couple of months and then went over to NiQuitin Minis (cherry flavour), the patches were ok but they itch like buggery after you've been on them a while no matter how many different places you try, I don't miss the cigarettes at all now, but its going to take a while to chop out the NiQuitin sweets.
Best of luck with it Steve, its tough at first but it does get easier with time.

St3v3,
Most people that smoke also suffer from High Blood Pressure innocent the use of patches can counter-act the work the prescribed medication for that does as it accelerates the heart rate especially at night when your body is not used to being feed nicotine! resulting in "pins and needles and nightmares" I never smoked in my sleep!
I'm back on the champix lol when I lived in London I went off Ciggies for Five years cold turkey as a bet!
Inspired by this thread I started on CHAMPIX again today and If I succeed, I'll buy "Toot's" her darn Iphone5 rotflmao
My blood pressure is being monitored weekly as part of the Zyban regime ...
I take blood pressure tablets anyway as the cholesterol tablets they gave me invrease blood pressure as a side effect rolleyes
Also take beta blockers as part of my meds since my first attack in 2005..
I bought one of the e-cigs back in February and stopped using the normal cigs immediately, and can say that I did not miss smoking, or the smell that goes with them.
The initial outlay to buy the e-cig is quite high (around £60 depending on model and where you get it from) but after that, the weekly running costs are around £5 a week (less than one day's cig costs). I had the totally wicked tank type (menthol liquid) and can honestly say, I enjoyed using it. It satisfied the nicotine craving, it tasted nice (methol) and I didnt have the stale smoke smell on my clothes.
However, be aware that even with the e-cigs you are still (technically) getting exactly the same amount of nicotine as you would smoking. Ok, you are not getting the rest of the rubbish that goes with smoking (carbon monoxide, tar etc etc), but Nicotine is HIGLY ddictive and still very dangerous to your health. Also, I would check with your doctor about the safety of using this with the Zyban, as I understand the aim of the Zyban (same as the Champix) is to kill of all those little nicotine gremlins and reduce the pleasure you get from getting nicotine into your system.
I really do wish you all the luck in the world in stopping and hopefully I will be joining you soon, as I started smoking again around 6 weeks ago and dont want to carry on doing it.
We bought some e cig starter packs after a couple of our friends successfully gave up using them. Lee was ok with them but they gave me headaches.
The last time I gave up was for a couple of months. I used patches (16 hour ones which you take off at night so that they dot disturb your sleep) and an inhalator. The inhalator is awful to use (feels like pepper spray on the back of your throat) and made me cough like anything so I rarely used it but I always had it with me for the hand to mouth thing without the inhalation. That way I didn't put on the weight from putting food in my mouth instead. I really don't need to put more weight on!
You will find something that works for you. If you are determined enough you could do it on your own.
Good luck xx
Ordered yesterday afternoon...
Arrived this morning
I'll let you know how I get on :-)

I did quite a bit of reading on E-cigs prior to getting them for Mrs Tweeky. From what I read Nicotine is no more dangerous than caffine. Dr's suggested that if everyone smoked e-cigs smoking related deaths would be between 40-400 a year rather than the figures we have now.
I find this all quite fascinating just considering that 10 years back there was virtually no stop smoking aids or there were they were not well advertised. Back in the day lol People just gave up like my Granparents who smoked for 55 years then gave up with no patchs gum tablets or whatever. I think maybe people are better off when there is no magic pill/gum/patch and you are forced into the reality of give up or die. As I have seen people sat outside hospital wards with lung disease, heat problems and amputated legs due to smoking still sat there smoking away some people obviously choose die.

No....
Some people just find it a lot more difficult to quit than others....

I couldnt agree more, and stopping smoking is very, very difficult.

And therefore choose death. Giving up is choice and choices are not made by patchs and tablets. Use whatever you can but ultimately the choice is yours. Without going into to much detial lets just say I have given up a lot of things from cigs to more illegal substances. I have never used the prescribed medications though I know I have to be ready to stop. Being ready/wanting to stop is the be all and end all without that give up giving up. I sit here writing this with a glass of vodka to my right. I drink far to much way more than the recommended average. It would be good and sensible to stop but at the moment I am not ready at the moment I am choosing die. If past form is an indicator one day I'll decide today is the last day and I'll stop minus medication as when I decide to stop thats it. Just hope I dont reach die first.

I'm finding it quite helpful to be fair...
I am still using "normal" fags but nowhere near as much as I did and find more and more a few puffs on the "plastic fag" will quell the urge for a while (and that "while" is slowly getting longer) :-)
