Well at last it's Election Day and I decided to do the right thing and have been down to vote - trouble is, I still feel disillusioned:
Where I live, my 1st choice party are a non-starter - it's a two horse race between my 2nd and 3rd choice parties. So, I voted for my 2nd choice to keep my 3rd choice out, but it's not want I really wanted to do!
Plim
I was introduced to Danny Kushlick at a Mark Thomas gig recently (Danny is standing for Bristol West as an independent) and had a good natter an giggle bout Politics.
For those who aren't aware - Mark Thomas started The Peoples Manifesto and is supporting Danny in standing. Loads of people wrote into MT with suggestions for policies to be included in the manifesto (some f which are quite a musing).
This is one of my favourites from Danny!
2) The Daily Mail should be forced to print on the front of every edition the words “This is a fictionalized account of the news and any resemblance to the truth is entirely coincidental.”
wink
PS I don;t live in Bristol West - shame! lol

Well, glad we got that one sorted Plim lol
i have voted but i dont expect my choice to get in, they are usually beaten by about 10% by the tories in this area sad
Our choice done rather well, but then always does here
It couldn't have been a better result for me. Labour out tories not in, green MP, BNP no gain and council loss. A slim chance of electoral reform. My only concern is the capitalists panicking us into the wrong hasty decisions by manipulating markets for personal gain.
It's amazing just how accurate the exit polls are .....last night's was:
Conservative 305, Labour 255 and LibDem 61,
Actual result with 1 seat still to declare:
Conservative 306, Labour 258 and LibDem 57
These days we know the outcome by ..maybe we can do away with all the paraphernalia of the count and all have an early night lol

You mean the capitalists carrying-on buggering the economy in the future as they have done in the past ?
We don't need politicians to mess the world up: We have banks to do that. And they do it very well indeed.
There are several rays of hope: Not least the dumping of both Jacqui Smith and Charles Clark.
Seems the "Prime Ministerial Broadcasts" didn't do the Lib/Dems much good after all.
Now we have "uncertainty" the only certain thing about it is that it will another election in the near future......I do not think I can stand another month of garbage and crap in every media outlet....surely that comes under "cruel and unusual punishment"...there MUST be a section of the human rights act that deals with forcing people to ingest crap, lies and bollocks ?
I was told that one of the Monster Raving Loony party reps got in - is that right?
Still at least now we will see the backstabbers and two faced Labour politicians plotting to oust Brown.
Bet he ain't PM in two weeks time.
What a relief to see the back of that lying shameful nasty man.
I think he and Blair should be given to the hoola hoola tribe in outta Mongolia, to cook in a nice great big pot.

So what makes you think any other party (or large organisation for that matter)is different?

Yes - I think perhaps more by luck though with the unexpected opposing changes at different places.

Ummm, isn't the whole point of statistics that if the sample is large and accurate enough the prediction is valid even though there are individual variations?

'Marx argued that capitalism, like previous socioeconomic systems, would inevitably produce internal tensions which would lead to its destruction'.
Are we in Britain, going to see this occurring?
If as according to our new PM, this is the most serious issue our nation has had to deal with since World War 2. Then he needs to communicate with the Population.
Also, another saying I've come across with recently is...
you can't go back.
So, how can they instantly take Tax Credits away without assessing the impact of doing so within Society?
If the Nation is Skint, how can our new PM justify spending £12Billion on Nuclear Weapons. Ohhh... the Lib Dem's in 'the deal' have agreed for this to occur.
Maybe, the above quote about Marx will occur?.
Thanks to all those who are continuing to contribute to this thread.
The coalition should work well, but only time will tell. If it does and then we have another hung parliament at the next election, I think they will have to consider building a new shaped chamber for the Commons with a pentagon or similar room with no central divide between the seats - environment makes a different to sound debate.
Plim :-?

Tax credits need a serious re-think, far too many very well off people getting them

What about Child benefit? Not even means tested everyone from Richard Branson to the Queen can claim it (except her kids are too old lol ) Cut that for anyone on more than say 25k joint per year. Save a ton.
As for Child tax credit I believe you get it up to about 50k per year at around £10 a week. People earing 50k per year dont need £10 a week tax credit. Cut Child tax credits for anyone on more than 25k joint and raise the limit on working tax credits so that more lower paid get it.
Not that that is what Cameron will do. He will just cut it for savings full stop.
Seriously hoping that the Lib dems now do get some kind of PP rep through. I voted for them in this election as I dint want the Torys. If they get PP through I can make sure both they and Torys never appear on my ballot paper again. Long memory here, shall never vote LD again in my entire life.
