Yes, 3 People killed in the Boston Bombing almost 24hrs of blanket news coverage, 57 People killed in an Iraq bombing last month, 2 minutes of airtime for a about 3 on the hour news bulletins...yes that suprised me. Had the Boston bombing been in any other country other than the good ol US of A we would probably not have heard much about it at all.
I don't know if it's me or what but the BBC seem intent on following/reporting everything that happens in the USA down to the finest detail and then keeping us uptodate with it possibly more than our own UK news.

I suppose it all depends on the perceived risk. Iraq is a risky place therefore it is of no surprise that many people are killed. Boston is a safe city and therefore no risk from terrorists.
Also how many of those in Boston got immediate treatment to prevent even more loss of life. Looking at the type of weapon and method of action in causing soft tissue trauma we would have expected a lot more dead if not for the immediate response of on-site paramedics.
So no it doesn't surprise me. Though I dare say if we were watching Arabic news then the minutes given to the bombing may have been different.
Riskier yes, but simply put the loss of 57 lives is worth 3 or 4 minutes of airtime over a few hours, 3 lives lost on American soil and the whole world knows about it with the UK being deluged with 24hrs of it.
But lets do away with the risk, Irans biggest earthquake in 40 years with so far approx 50ppl killed and it's barely made the news and yet when the US has a hurricane on the way we're given hourly updates for days before and then when it hits and several people lose their life we're told about it for another day or so....
Gotta love numbers.
856000 is the total number of configurations of the Rubik cube.
Wow, that's a big member, up's I mean number - sorry multi-tasking between sites!
lol
When I were a lad, any murder anywhere in the UK was front page news.
These days, its so commonplace it barely reaches page 32 if it gets reported a all.
Such is life today.
Statistics can prove whatever you want to.....Don't use IE and save lives.

Statistics today suggest murder has halved in the past decade, maybe the reason you don't see it reported is because it just doesn't happen frequently enough to be noticed.
Barcelona lose... 4 - 0 ... that was a statistic I was surprised to read !!!!
