Got a hotel in central Birmingham booked for Friday night and looking forward to a fun night with a lady met through here smile
Any locals got suggestions as to decent pubs we can go to that have good atmosphere?
Cheers!
depends what sort of atmosphere......Broad street in the centre is very busy and lively....loads of bars to choose from. Also the Chinese quarter has a active and buzzing atmosphere about it.
Broad St is the happening place, and there are some good pubs along the way,
The Walkabout is pretty good

Bar Risa in Broad St has plenty to offer, I dont think the comedy club is good as the one at the Glee but plenty of ambience in the Risa.

Off Broad St and there is Brindley place, for me some of the joints are a bit pretentious but there are some reasonable bars to go soak a few hours away.

Just off the Chinese Quarter is the Gale (Nightingales) it's a gay bar but has plenty of straight people attending, three floors, different toons on each floor, drink is reasonably priced, open late, plenty of places to schmmooooz
Thanks both! Looks like we'll be checking out Broad Street..
Broad St is a shit hole and best avoided after about 9pm, unless you want to dodge the discarded burgers littering the floor or navigate your way round the post work piss heads and morons looking for a fight- its basically where all the 18-25 year olds go to try and pull anything that looks like it might have had a pulse ;-)
Go to the Arcadian in the Chinese quarter, a bit less idiot free. if you like a lively, noisy bar with music, head towards new st and look for TK Max, then walk about 100m away from new st until you find the sunflower lounge.
If you're anywhere near the cathedral and like real ale, pop in to the Old Joint Stock- walk round the cathedral railings and you'll find it.
I'll send you a pm with another very nice, hard to find bar which is well worth popping into.
Try the Jewelry Quarter.
Much more relaxed than Broad Street and you haven't got the risk of getting punched by a dickhead because you looked at his pint funny and then having to step over the piles of puke at closing time.
Broad Street sounding less appealing bolt
Use to work just off Broad Street a few years ago, its gets very stupidly busy of a night time.
MrsG is now pointing out how she would like to go to the Cube . . . bars, Marco Pierre White restaurant, hotel, me thinks a long weekend in on the continent would be cheaper !

Ah, and I thought she was talking about the new build in Brum, she's obviously been sneaking some looks on here behind my back
depends on they type of night you are after... there are a lot of nice places, just off broad street.. a 5 min walk down the canal will take you to the Mailbox / Cube. some really nice bars here.
