Imagine a life with not a single supermarket around.
I would rather they be here than not, in fact I am off to do my weekly shop at my nice shiny new Sainsbury's supermarket. I am not suprised to be honest that supermarkets do not make massive profits, and many supermarkets like Waitrose do give heavily to their communities.
They are not all bad you know, and they sell great produce as well as bad produce. It is up to the consumer which one they want to buy as they give the consumer one important ingredient..... CHOICE.
Now put that in ya pot and stir it. lol

Thing this one has got twisted and confusing, people have said that budget/cheap processed food is to blame not least through long supply chains to get them onto the shcelves usually as own brand produce, I have said I do NOT consider Findus to be budget/cheap products.
I said it was the fault of the supermarkets not the consumer in answer to the allegation that is is the consumers fault that prices have been driven down, when I believe that those who have to buy budget products through circumstance are still in that position whilst supermarkets who are often the ones pushing farmers for the cheaper products are still making huge profits.

The only circumstance that makes people buy budget processed food is laziness.
It would be far cheaper to buy the ingredients and make your own. One would also have the advantage of knowing what you are buying.
Hi Flower, so nice to know that you say i am lazy smile
Just spend some time in my life then maybe you would alter your opinion !
I work full time in a very physical job, i am also disabled and in extreme pain and am waiting for an operation to (hopefully) sort out the injuries that cause the disabilty and pain.
I have a family to feed.
I earn slightly above minimun wage.
My husband works extremly long hours to suport his daughter and ex wife and the house they live in and is also paying off his ex wifes huge debts so his wage is gone on paying that plus his share of our mortgage. When he is home he does as much housework as possible to make sure that i dont have very much to do because of my pain. He then doesnt have time or money to go shopping to buy the ingrediants to cook from scratch. He is usualy exhausted and sleeps ready to get up early the next day to start over again.
Soon i will be without full wages while i have an operation.
Sometimes we do buy cheap ready meals because i/we am tired, and i am in extreme pain that even an opiate doesn't help, therefore i am unable to stand and cook from scratch, i am also unable to afford the more expensive ready meals so i am stuck with life as it is, but i a NOT lazy so dont judge everyone so quickly !
Lazy ? No i don't think so !!!! Upset ? Yes very upset that someone makes such a judgement without thinking about how others are forced to live though circumstances out of their control.
firstly....where did you get idea that supermarkets make small profit !! the 6% we talk about above..is not the profit..thats the INCREASE in profit. So come on, don't start feeling sorry for them !!
The people that are to blame are the manufacturers. If it says 100% beef on the lid..then it should be 100% under the lid....no if's..no Buts. If I buy a deisel from the supermarket...( on which price is very important and lots of competition) ... I would be expecting to be putting deisel into my tank. If I found it was half cooking oil ( which i beleive you can dilute deisel with ) then I would not be very happy.
Its all very simple....I want to buy whats it says on the lid. I have just brought a Beef Lasagne from Tesco for me and the daughter for tonights tea. Half price as well.. !! Thing is with all recent scares...these would have checked and double checked...so I would think 100% beef.
