Jeepers, I wish mine would hurry up *sulk*
Ordered day of them coming out (last week) given a date of mid-october, that's just pants but it's done.
But there are two more options, try your luck in-store at Apple by walking in and asking them to sell you one (64g Black is the one i wants) and 'no chance' I mean what the feck is that all about? I want a phone, they have them for sale (sim free) it's a £1 short of £700 and they're 'we're only doing 'reserve for next day' GRRRR how irritating is that ..
So, come home after checking the phone out in-store and making myself even more irritated *smiling* cos I can't have one, and the store opens to 8pm most nights (one of my local apple stores)..so I have to 'reserve one' for the next day...but still no fecking guarantee *grumble* to reserve one you have to go online between 9am and 5pm, pick the one you one, hit the reserve button and you get to a page that says 'thanks for reserving, if you receive an email by 9pm this evening it will be for a collection time for the following day in-store ....more grrrrrr! I've done that for the past few days and I still aint got my email ...bloomin eck I want me new phone now!
I've reserved the phone and all three stores close to me (well, within driving distance) and still nothing and I'm still having to wait for the October 18th. I shall carry on trying to reserve but it's getting on my tits and my tits, southwards heading...well, they take some gettin on I tell ya.
..
As for the phone, what a phone, it's fab, feels great in the hand, I don't mind a bit of thickness once in a while *twitch* but the iphone5 is lighter, slimmer and a bit longer, if only my mans winky was similar *cough* ...and it does feel significantly different once in my mitts.
It's much quicker, seems brighter, the new ios6 with air-drop and all that, wow! but one main difference I really think is good (well a few actually) is the camera, it is infinitely faster than my iphone4, both in taking pics and storing them/opening them and although I haven't been able to see on my iMac yet what a pic from the iPhone5 is like in panoramic view...it looks good already, point, shoot and follow the line on the screen as you go around the room and when it stops you've got your panoramic shot, well impressed.
I could go on ...but for now and until i get my iPhone5 I wont ...and to those that have them, I salute you *salute*, to all those that have an excess of them (more than they require)...well you can kiss my patooty and to all those that want them but haven't yet been able to get one...well, come close (pulls you in close) we'll mourn together.
I couldn't leave this post without a small mention of Android *smiling* go bury your heads and lament your relics, iPhone5 is here
Now, where is that reserve button again.

Toot's,
I'm delighted for you - I hope you get your Iphone5, I like you am passionate about my handset but I prefer Android.
Apple outsourced manufacturing to "Foxconn" in China ( as do most global companies)
Some interesting facts:
Foxconn have installed safety nets in production facilities to prevent the ever increasing suicide rate at nummerous production plants
Foxconn Technology, one of the world’s largest electronics manufacturers, and a major supplier for Apple, has announced that it will raise salaries and decrease overtime at its factories in China. The Times’s David Barboza wrote, “Foxconn said that salaries for many workers would immediately jump by 16 to 25 percent, to about $400 a month
A typical Foxconn employee on the assembly line makes anywhere from 1,500 renminbi to 2,200 renminbi a month, based on 160 hours of work. At that salary, the wage ranges between $ and $ an hour, based on the exchange rate of 6.3 renminbi to the dollar
Toot's my post is not aimed at you but at your desire to have the Iphone5, like I did for my HTC One X ( fab phone btw)
I think this thread and your longing to have the phone so desperatly may have pissed a few off ( not me ) I add.
In the current economic climate times are hard for everyone, but my own thoughts are with those people in China!
I'll end this with a note - Your signature:
Everything is made in China, except babies. They're made in the VaChina

Does that allow exploitation?

Of course! I was just curious about whether you were suggesting that the Android is somehow better from an ethical perspective, given what you said... that was all. I wasn't suggesting that you were attacking Toots...

Padders meluvvly, nothing you say will ever offend me since seeing your green jumper from the other night on cam* *smiling* and then yer bits afterwards *fidget*
There appears very little days you can buy these days without some person(s) being exploited along the way from bananas to sugar to sportwear, clothing to technology etc, it's not specific to Foxconn/iPhone and I'm not about to beat myself up because of it either.
As for your thought with those in Foxconn/China?, why stop there? extend it to those in the sweatshops of the east asian countries, maybe even south america and while you're at it how bout europe and the UK even?
Anyway, I didn't get my email from Apple today re a reserve, maybe they read you here and thought ya know, that padders guy, he has a point, Toots can swivel *smiling*
Such is life.
My Daughter just had to have the new I phone 5. She like me had the I phone 4 and paid out for a new contract to get the 5.
I love my I phone 4 but the differences that Apple have used between the phones is minimal to say the least. Apple in particular rely on people like the OP and my Daughter to buy the new phone at an exorbitant amount of money. It is a phone, a good phone granted, but a phone. What is all the hype about?
Come on people be serious here. Is there really a world of difference between the I phone 4s and the new 5? A bit lighter, a bit slimmer and a bit longer, yes and £700 quid. No wonder Apple are making zillions with people longing for the latest gadget. I told my Daughter she needs to get a bit more of a life and save her money, but did she listen?
I have tried the new Samsung Galaxy 111 and I have to say I rather like it. I think it looks better in the hand than the Iphone. It is lighter than the I phone 4 and very fast. I am a bit tired of Apple linking it all up with their I Tunes rubbish to be honest. A lot of my apps now do not work since Apple upgraded my phone to operating system 6. What is all that about ffs? The great Apple and apps do not work with the new software upgrade? The voice activation is crap at best and I think the new 5 has come out too early and there are known bugs in it on release. The maps are all over the place and things are just not right with the phone yet. But they should have got it right before the launch, but as always the people out there who must have the latest I phone make it all too easy for Apple.
I may just think seriously about the new Samsung. The I phone 4 has a total rubbish camera and video compared to the new Samsung,oh and btw it is also a damn site cheaper too. My advice to anyone would be to wait another 3 months before buying one, then maybe all the software problems may have been sorted by then.

Whilst it is a 'phone' it's not just a phone it's an iPhone *cough* I don't have the 4s, hence the updating to the 5 but for every negative review of any phone you'll find an equal amount of positive reviews, it's about what suits you personally, the iPhone suits me perfectly.
but it's more than a phone to me, it's my diary, point of contact with friends and family from afar, I browse, read, listen to my music sometimes piping it around the house, catch up with tv on it, it works with our cctv system when we're out and I can keep in touch with my man when I'm out and he's stuck at home, I've used it in a conference call with my gp, booked tickets, used the camera thousands upon times, had fun with my eldest via some of the apps we play, her on the ipod me on phone and the list goes on....all/most of which you can do with many other phones BUT we're Apple only at home, everything works together seamlessly and the list could go on.
I've had my iPhone 4 for a couple of years, it's represented excellent value for money, it will sell s/h for approx £250 so almost half back for what I originally paid, not a bad return on a 2yr old phone is that.
The galaxy s iii is currently £520, the cheapest iphone5 is £529, not much difference, the extra I'm paying is simply for extra storage capacity which is no different to anything else similar really.

iPhone5 entry level

I did read somewhere that Apples iPhone accounts for 5% of the worlds market on phones, but 50% of the profits, I'd call that smart business (not discounting Paddys previous comments re Foxconn)
If I wanted just a phone I'd buy a Nokia.
Heard the words i thought i'd never hear today:
my boss turns to me and says 'I think i've been converted'
He got a samsung tab2 7" free when he got a SmartTV and started using it yesterday. 'it just lets me do everything i want to do i don't have to jump through hoops like the iPad' this is from someone that was iDevice all the way.
If your all Apple like Toots, it's all going to 'just work' but you won't be able to integrate anything non apple into that system.
Apple = you can do whatever you want, as long as apple say you can
Android = you can do whatever the system can do (and it's a full computer OS under the hood)
for non Apple centric stuff, Android lets you do a lot more.
To table an alternative option.....
1) Go for an Andriod phone (cheaper than the iPhone);
2) Buy an iPod Touch (an iPhone without the phone), or even an iPad.

sorry but you are correct in the many things it can do, but your making it sound as though your life depends on it. Is there anything wrong with your I phone 4 at all? Does it still do everything you want it to do? But you sound sooooo upset that yet another day goes past without your registration e mail informing you that your new phone is ready to collect.
Sorry but I find it all a bit to much going on about a phone.

Apple have some people salivating at such a rate and people fall for it every time. Such a tiny difference between the 4 and the 5, but still a bit lighter and a bit longer counts for everything. Right? rotflmao

Pah! there is no alternative to an iPhone *smiling*
Got the touch, or at least my eldest has, got ipads but answering a call on an ipad (if it were possible) would remind me of Dom Joly in Trigger Happy Tv 'HELLO'
er.....no!
Toots I reckon as way of a punishment that you should be forced to have one of these for a week. Failure to comply will result in some serious punishment. lol
Ohh spanking? *smiling* yes please! *fidget*
I've got a 'nightclub' phone for when on the now rare occasion I'm able to go clubbing, it's a Nokia 8310, fits in my clutchbag ever so neat and if it's nicked...well it's nicked.
Also comes in handy for when I'm white water rafting, abseiling occasionally skydiving *smiling* ..er none of which I have yet to do....obviously.
I'm with Toots. I'm an Apple whore and so is my wife. We've both got a MacBook Pro and an iPhone, and we share an iPad and Apple TV at home... It all works beautifully together. Since I'm into photography, there's just no substitute for a MacBook Pro in my opinion, and if I'm going to use a Mac as my home computer, it just makes sense to have an iPhone and all the other Apple stuff too. (Everyone else just waits to see what Apple will do next and then they copies it!!)
Besides... It makes me wet just walking into an Apple shop... :sticky:
:rascal:
(But I'm not upgrading my 4S... Waste of money! Will wait for the next version before upgrading...)

Ahh glad I read this in the end. Something useful came out of it. £699 you say? They are going for £850 on ebay lol I shall be trying that reserve button, I'll do it with my Android :P Nothing I love more than a desperado with a wad full of cash. Lets hope they stay under stocked for a while.

If only that were true. Apple simply rebrands other tech or steals ideas from other and claim then to be their own.
even Mac OS, they took the free to use BSD and worked on that. they didn't build mac OS from the ground up.

All I'm saying is that it could work out cheaper to just have an Andriod phone to make calls on (and for a better maps app lol) and have apple device for all the other stuff the iPhone does - music, video, cam, apps, iBooks, Facetime etc etc.
That's how I roll... I have a nice little HTC phone, and an iPad (wi-fi only, which I tether through my HTC when I'm out). My daughter has a similar thing - an HTC (£10/month) and an iPod Touch.

Ya see, you've already bought into Apple, you're just not fully embracing their vibe?
Mind you, you did mention Asda and Android at the same time, figures! Now if you'd have said 'Waitrose & Apple" well then I'd have been with you *smiling* Peasant!
ps: CocoRocks £1 special offer at Asda right now, bargain!
'It Just Works'
yes it does, too bloody well sometimes. Like my 8 year old streaming her favourite tunes on the touch down to my AppleTV while we're trying to watch Game of Thrones. smile
It took me about 30mins to work out where the music was coming from, I'd stop watching GoT, go back to the AppleTV front end and the music was still playing dunno
