Looks like he is in self destruct mode with his latest comments
I've not read the article so can't comment and certainly wouldn't rely upon the Gruniad's take on it. Generally I find him funny.
How can saying you would leave a body of anyone that commits suicide at a train station,on the track, for the rats to scavage......and carry on with the train...so as not to cause disuption ....be classed as funny !!!
The man disgusts me.
Anyone who actually takes what he says seriously really needs a reality check....
Clarkson is an idiot a deeply deeply appalling man ..... but often hilarious and usually entertaining .... a bit like a clown Hitler. As long as no-one actually takes him seriously (and I doubt anyone does) no harm done
I had a very close friend who jumped under a train ... I don't find Clarksons comments offensive and I doubt mad Simon would have either
I had the one show on the other night (when the telly did work)and his comments there about the strikers were truely awful, I really hope the BBC ends his contract. I cannot stand the man.

Isn't this the crux of the matter? He's not seen as a comedian per se, and he doesn't generally appear on comedy shows. But if he was, and he showed up with comments like these on 'Have I Got News' or 'Mock the Week' would his comments still be offensive, or just a bit near the knuckle? After all, isn't this the stock in trade for people like Franky Boyle et al? dunno
And in fairness, the report of his comments about the strikers was taken out of context. The way I saw it reported on Newswatch showed a discussion which was somewhat in favour of the strikers, and then he threw in the comment about it being the BBC and there being a need to balance the discussion with an opposing viewpoint - hence the execution diatribe (and the ensuing laughter from the studio crew).
I'm not trying to defend him, but I tend to take everything he says with a pinch of salt. If I didn't I could have been offended by the way he's spoken out against some if the cars I've owned and my driving style. ;)

and there lies the problem of the peeple who have complained about what he has said, they dont like the man. did you actually see all of the interview or just the bits you did not like? or did you read just the bits that caused a stir in the paper and not the rest? just curious.
now had it been one of your most favorite comediens that you had brought tickets for at a local show arena i wonder if you would have found that funny and laughed your socks off?
i know i know your going to say that had your favorite comedien had said that at a show you would have looked on in horror and walked straight out of the door to go home. rotflmao because your favorite comedien would have said far far worse at a show.
it is because you do not like the man and not particularily the comment itself. it stands out a mile in your above comment.
top comediens have said far far far worse and have made a million out of it to. where would our most famous of comediens be now with the peeple we have now that get offended by almost anything now days.
dont ever go and see jim davidson he would make your toes curl

Couldn't agree more...
I quite like him to be honest...
Used to be a caravaner and his hatred and snide comments about them never bothered me one bit....
Knowing how to take him is all important...

My employment relies on caravans, always has, but his mutterings have never upset me
He's an idiot and no-one should take his comments seriously (any of them - hw knows bugger all about cars too) but that doesn't give hime carte blanche to be vile about people.

now sorry but he knows a lot more than most and that is a rather silly comment reely. or is that once again because you think he is an idiot by any chance? you base that comment on what exactly? was he being vile though or just funny?
i and many others think him funny.

I have watched Top Gear - he is either an idiot or faking it bloody well. In the parts where they have to do somethig to a car - like fix a simple mechanical problem, he makes a huge fuss, breaks it more and throws a tantrum and goes and sits in the bar while the others work. And why would anyone pretend to be an idiot? I also stand by the fact that he doesn't know about cars - he only likes fast 'boy racer' cars and mocks cars with low mpg and emmissions. That is sufficient proof of idiocy in my books. And my definition is as valid as anyone else's.
Sadly enough people find his style of presentation appealing to provide him with an income. dunno
I love watching Clarkeson. He makes me laugh. His column in the tabloids is a must read to cheer yourself up.

"Referring to those who jumped in front of trains as "Johnny Suicide", Clarkson said trains should resume their journey as soon as possible following a suicide and leave the body parts for scavenging animals."
taken from the link above....now please someone explain to be how that comment is funny !!!
Depends on ones humour. If it needs explaining, then you didn't get it.
As for being unsympathetic to suicides...........how do the big religions look on suicide? One faith says that you will go to hell..........how is that sympathetic?
I feel pity for suicide victims but my opinion is that it is selfish. Especially selfish if they do it publically like throwing themselves in front of the train. The poor driver and passengers will be traumatised over it.

i agree that suicide can be a selfish act, for those who experience the aftermath no matter how it is acheived. i have known more than one person to have committed suicide, the sad part is how one can be driven to do it.i would assume that if you are that ill to throw yourself under a train, take pills, drive over beachy head, your not going to be thinking will i upset someone.
The question is are JC's comments funny? Well i have read them, and no, i dont think they are funny, in fact most of what he says and does is not funny, unless you call being a self opinionated, patronising twat funny! Now, i will probably be criticised for saying that, is that not funny also?

agree 100% with all of the above mr notts.
it is a selfish act and i had a friend who many years ago did the same as gary speed. killed himself and left no note or anything. his wife and child have certainly never recovered from the suicide of a man who she thought had no problems.

no one neccessarily argueing with this......but equally is it fuuny....or is is it gross insensativity to try and make a joke out of it...maybe ask the wife and kids that you know if they find it funny !!!

It's not pleasant for those of us who have had to clean up afterwards.

Yes it is funny to those that do not have any emotional contact with the subject matter. No to those that are the butt of it. Thats humour..........if people do not like it then they do not need to listen/read the jokes.
Are somethings too for humour? Not in my eyes, as it is a way of getting through life.
