Knock-knock ginger...

I know there is no actual answer to this - I just want to shout into the ether really! 

But why do so many people send out private messages then close their account without waiting for an answer?

I had 6 private messages sent to me last night, all by accounts which today are gone (maybe the same account, who knows?). I get that some people expect the site to provide an  -fuck and run away once they find that other members are looking for more than "I live near you, you'll do" - but why bother sending out messages if you are planning to leave the site? At least give me a few hours to consider whether you are worth getting to know! 

Generally speaking, you'll probably find they are accounts we've discovered are scammer/spammers advertising other sites- we're pretty good at shutting them down quickly, but not always before they've sent a fair few messages out. When they get given the boot from the site, the accounts show as having been shut down.

Ah, I hadn't considered that. The messages I received didn't have anything dodgy in them, but I suppose they might actually send out a batch of innocent-looking messages in the hope people might comment on their profile or something and make them seem legitimate.

 Absolutely- see how many are still members a week after you notice them...
