hi,kids asus laptop has 2 hard drives,c drive is 60 gb and is rapidly filling up.D drive 160 gb,called data drive absolutely this machine automatically switch over when c drive full or do i need to move stuff to bring this rive into so how?
thanks
Hiya
More than likely it's one physical volume divided into two.
In answer to your specific question - no, it won't automatically start to fill up the D drive.
If you go to 'My Computer' you will see the D drive listed there. You should be able to open it. Within the drive, you can create folders where you can start to save things like pictures etc.
My suggestion is you reserve the C drive for the system element (Windows and program files) and anything else you have already saved in the C drive copy across to the D drive.
This is simply done by opening two windows side by side perhaps, the C drive and the D drive and then dragging and dropping any programs from one to the other using the right mouse button which will allow you to select whether to copy or move.
As I indicated earlier, leave the system element such as Windows files (in the windows directory) and other program files on the C drive and when saving data, direct it to a relevant directory in the D: drive which you have created.
Hope that helps.

Assuming the files that are taking up space are data files and not application files, you need to manually move the files over to the empty drive.
BUT when you do move them if there are any links to those files they will be broken and programs will be unable to find them.
Soooo only copy over documnets, pictures, music that sort of stuff.
Open windows explorer, you should be able to see the 2 hard drives.
Click on D:
Create a new folder and rename it whatever you are moving...i.e. music files or pictures etc
Click on c: drive, open folder to move pictures etc. select all and select cut, then paste them in to the new folder in the d: drive
Sit back and drink a cup of tea, eat biscuits whatever while the files are moved. By the way, if its many gigs to move it could take a while!
In future use the D: drive to store your data and not the c: drive.
hope that helps
thanks for your help guys, will do that
I got myself a portable hard drive ..... 320gb and it cost me £35 including delivery...
I now store everything on that and leave the pc as uncluttered as possible..
get a copy of Acronis Disk Director, its a bootable CD, you can then resize the partitions easly without having to move files around which is very slow.
Disk management that is already on the laptop will be able to combine the two hard drive partitions. Then you won't have to worry about moving files or where to install programs.
The two partition drives are pointless if you don't use them correctly when you first start using the laptop.
