Sad loss today well into his 90's.
A real Gentleman of politics who will be sadly missed.
I was never going to be of his political persuasion but that is not to say that I didn't respect his considerable ability.
I could never imagine Michael pushing past people on the stairs, brushing them aside with the sort of disrespect we have come to know of bottler Broon. Michael was a Gentle Man in every respect, the likes of which sadly are diminishing at an alarming rate.
Rest in Peace, Michael.
His oratory skills were legendary..
A loss worthy of thought, I didn't like him at first, but warmed to him later on. A true celebration of life though when anyone gets past 90, and in his case, it was some time ago too.
Plim
Glad this was posted as would not have known otherwise. Thankyou
A terrific intellect as well as being a fantastic orator. But above all a guy who cared about the common man and the poor of the World. Certainly couldn't imagine him claiming for duck houses etc etc.

Here Here
Sorry could not stand him as a politician.
As a man never knew him.
Neil Kinnock, ya know the man who WAS a twit, was talking today and summed it up for me when he said " we have been comrades for decades ".
Old Labour eh?
Still at 96 he had a good innings.

i see you take the jan moir line on speaking of the dead, kenty
It is getting very tiresome and to be honest very childish to keep referring to the D Mail.
They are my opinions, as you have yours.
I detest the old Labour movement of which he was a huge factor. I did not like his political stance, how is that speaking bad of the dead.
I never made any comment as to the man as I never knew him.
When Thatcher dies you watch how many people on here and in the REAL world who will slag her off on the day she dies.....difference?
She will be given a state funeral.
Mr foot was a leader of a party and Neil Kinnocks comments today really peed me off.
You thought he was a great PM, and I did not....one of us will have to get over it.
Can't recall Michael Foot ever being PM. Have we missed something?

At least you knew where you stood with old labour
Not like the rattlesnakes who populate the current iteration of the Labour movement.

I'm quite prepared to have a bit of a dig at the nasty woman whilst she is still alive
She most probably will yes, not a bad thing when all is said and done, the country needs a day of celebration

No but I think you may have done.
Have a Google. wink
Kaznkev as you can see, even before she has died people on here are looking forward to the celebrations.
I wonder if you will accuse them as well with the Jan Moir attitude towards death?
Somehow with your political views you will not....could be wrong though.
Ah the Jan Moir approach then. lol

Whilst i will not shed a tear for the death of thatcher ,given the harm she inflicted on this country,i would refrain from saying anything that might be considered hurtful to her family the day the day after her death, its just the way i was brought up,nothing to do with my politics.
I thought you were too young to remember the "Thatcher - Milk Snatcher" era...
I for one was extremely grateful she knocked the milk on the head. The smell of one third of a pint of milk warmed by the radiator used to make me heave.
Whilst not wanting to defend kenty .....if he felt one way about Mr Foot whilst he was alive I see no reason for him to feel different because of his death.
I on the other hand still feel that the labour party's loss of the '79 election deprived this country of the opportunity to be served by a great man and potentially a great prime minister.

my first demo GnV, ahh i remember it well lol
Actually as a good catholic girl our milk remained, the smell of the frozen bottles defrosting on the radiators was truly disgusting
So then, she saved us from a fate worse than death!
V remembers this as her first demo as a student at teacher training college in Birmingham too!

another reason to hate Maggie then. "Thatcher the Milk snatcher" was a very unfair label she got stuck with. She actually voted to retain free milk in primary schools, (Labour had already abolished it in secondary schools), she also spoke in the commons to retain it, but as minister for education at the time got scapegoated into making the press anouncement becuase heath was too chicken.

She actually taught children with special needs (ESSN) like those with Downs Syndrome, hydrocephalus and the like.. the sort of kids you would pass on the other side of the road.
Don't EVER make assumptions about V and her motives without first understanding where she comes from. Your comment has really pissed me off and I can understand more now why you were recently banned! Maybe another spell in the wilderness might help focus your attention somewhat!
GNV...firstly I was not making assumptions about anyone at all. It was a joke pure and simple about leftie teachers which I thought you would have seen not.
My intention was not to " piss you off " at all. in fact the opposite it was meant to do.
Special needs teaching is a wonderful vocation, and I take my hat off to those that go into that field. Why would I walk on the other side of the road to one of those children? Now that has pissed me off. Uncalled for and quite frankly below the belt, even for you.
You do not know my circumstances at all and I will not go into a child in my family on this forum, but maybe as you are a clever man, you may know what I am saying.
I made a joke and you took it completely the wrong way, of which I appologise, no offence was ever meant.
As for any ban I may have had, that is neither your or anyone else's business on here, except the people who run the site.
Once again my comment was not to offend, and am suprised that you even thought that.

Maybe next time you'll think before you press the submit button then.
Apology accepted without question.
I know you have family issues with special needs which is why I said what I did.
Line drawn, move on
That's good....never wanted to piss you off.

Mine's a scotch as it's my birthday...
Black Label 15 years - just like Floyd
Happy birthday GnV !
Anyway I watched newsnight last night and I was amazed at Michael Foots life story. He was an intellect, a man of passion and strong beliefs and I for one feel sad as he represents part of my formative years.

His brother Dingle (a prominent barrister) was Solicitor General in the Wilson administration.. another true Gentleman (from family knowledge) - a truly talented family!
