We have all no doubt heard the stories posted daily coming from North Korea and the threats it seems to be making against America in particular.

Does anyone think these threats have any facts attached to them, or is it just Kim Jong Un playing a game for the benefit of his people? Is America taking them seriously and what if the worst happens and North Korea does strike an American base?
This seems to be North Korea flexing a few muscles but they do have the capabilities and the man power, but are they crazy enough?

Not sure who is being crazy. Why is it common knowledge that the US flew two stealth bombers over North Korea yesterday ?
Seems to me to defeat the whole point of having stealth bommbers if you are simply going to use them to try to stir up trouble with a nation that is just looking for an excuse to have go !
The B1 Spirts in fact only flew over South Korea as part of the joint USA South Korea military exercises.

Yes they did but do you think it was to show their strengths to Korea? I mean a funny time to do this so called ' planned exercise '.
Should we all be a bit worried, or is it just all bravado?
A political tightrope the states are treading really....... They can't let North Korea bully the South or others .... but we all know they actually do have a nuclear capability. If provoked to much, is the leader of North Korea willing to embark be a suicide mission and have his moment in history, by unleasing them.
As I say a tighrope ....and as we all know tightrope walking is very dangerous !!

Oh I see !!! It was simply a coincidence that the US flew these planes over North Korea at a time of high tension .....that`s ok then .

No they flew over SOUTH Korea, not the North. To fly over the North they would have needed their permission to enter their air space, which if they did not North Korea would have deemed that an act of war and shot it down.
You do know North is the opposite of south? lol
I don't think North Korea would be so stupid, China needs to rain in her rabid Pekingnese before it gets put down, very inhumanely!

I love the idea of people actually believing that the US announce their flights over South Korea and believe that they didn`t fly over North Korea as well !
And can someone explain why it is that when a small insignificant country that never invaded anything makes threats they are called bullies but when a huge country with mega weapons and a history of invading anybody with a different culture, religion or political system they are called peacekeepers ?
Errr, which side was it that started the Korean War back in the 50s ???
And you assume that the B1s flew over North Korea, just because they can, maybe just to give the North Koreans an excuse to say the USA was invading them ??
John
Goes to look up the UKIP Policy statement before replying

Glad to see that you have put your usual input into a debate. Have you only got words of one syllable?
Dont know who flew where, I do know that the chances of an aircraft getting out of North Korean Airpace without being fired upon and destroyed would be worse odds than me winning the lottery tonight.
I do know we lost a lot of good British Soldiers bringing peace to the divided nation of Korea, a peace that has lasted a long time albeit with a lot of sabre rattling throughout it's inception.
I do know that without Chinese support there would be no North Korea today so a lot depends on how much support they would give them in the future.
As for will they won't they, the Koreans know that the US armed forces are very stretched at the moment, that the population would without doubt not support fighting another war for what they would see as someone else and another Vietnam. Many North Koreans are in total poverty and starving to death, the Korean leaders might just think an encounter with the Southern forces might be a good population diminishing tactic and a chance to get some help all round from the Chinese.
They have also been known to be a bit fanatical.
As for the US, they will avoid conflict at all costs for the reasons above but they have to make it look like they are ready and willing to fight.
So it seems from press reports that North Korea have stated they are now at war with the South.
There are a few countries in the world that you do not fuck with, and one of them is North Korea. Lets wait and see who fires the first shot for if a shot is fired, it could have dire consequences. Not for the UK though as we have no fecking armed forces left.

It's true though. Our armed forces have been decimated by Governments.
Later this year we will have so few armed forces personnel, that the remainder will fill about two Wembley stadiums. Count us out the next time a mad dictator comes along, as we will not have enough left to fill a ship.

Love the way people are complaining at the size of our armed forces, yet everytime we go to war or into a War zone, Falklands, Cyprus, Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Syria, everyone says we shouldn't get involved. lol Do we really want to get into a conflict with North Korea ? Perhaps we SHOULD be like Switzerland and only have a trained force, regular or territorial that is big enough to defend without going overseas to fight, just a thought wink
Do we want to get involved in hostilities involving North Korea.... Absolutely NOT !!
I think that was a rhetorical question from Jed ... I'm sure it was!
Jack
Rhetorical but hopefull thought provoking.
Haven't we as a nation "done our bit"
We stopped the German control of the world, it cost us more than we could afford, in human loss and financial, what did we get out of it ?
Are the aggressors worse off than us ? Germany, Italy, Finland ?
Does the rest of the free world ever think we did a good job ?
Did we get anything out of going into Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan ?
Are we in a position to be the once mighty power we were ?
Do we have anything to gain from going into Syria or fighting the Koreans ?
What about we declare ourselves a Neutral Nation in future, it worked for Argentina in the 2nd WW, it has worked for Switzerland for a long time.
Or is it just time to sit back and leave it to others as they have done with us in the past ?
Certainly scary stuff.

America had best be very careful with flexing her military muscles, as North Korea has some of it's own, ans China has even more if they were to come to North Korea's aid against the USA.
There won't be any War. North Korea hope to achieve the following;
1. Greater Aid
2. To be taken Seriously on the World Stage
3. Diplomatic Dialogue with the USA
4. Their new leader to be seen to be a tough talker and will stand up to
the "big boys"
China and Russia are both reported to have said, through their political spokespersons, to calm it.

Ok then Rogue.........what could possibly happen if South Korea decide the North is being serious and strikes the first blow? Get in first so to speak, a bit like Israel could do against Iran?
Is that possible?

South Korea would not strike without the say so from USA and Japan. USA and South Korea have already said that they do not recognise the "war footing" and would seek to avoid any confrontation. Russia and China have come back with dialogue must happen between all parties, and this is exactly what NK wants...gets around the negotiating table and will get the UN embargoes renegotiated.

In the past two, maybe three years the North has torpedoed a South Korean warchaip with the loss of 40 odd lives. They have opened an artillery barrage against southern positions and a rocket attack against an island on the border. The south has not retaliated, so it would be unlikely that they will strike the first blow given that they have shown restraint so far.
Looks like NK are upping the ante by turning on the reactor at Yongbyon, but they would have to rebuild the cooling tower first, still its a nasty threat to make.
