I am working t'other side of the Atlantic at the moment - not in the USA but close enough and I am in regular contact with Americans and get subjected to American news bombing on most channels that I can receive on the TV.
Obama has polarized American politics beyond anything or anyone who has gone before. The right wing Republicans and their public mouthpiece FOX News are bordering on anarchy with the negative things that they are saying about Obama and really rallying the white middle classes to rise up against him. Never before have so many Americans been against their own President.
On the other hand the Democrats are spending all of their available air time defending the President against right wing charges of 'Anti Americanism.'
The recent (and on going) healthcare debate is truly eye opening with neither side willing to even remotely compromise their positions.
From an outsiders point of view I would say that they should be giving Obama a chance to try a few things and judge him later as they have with every other President but this seems most unlikely.
By the way - if you have never watched FOX News - try it - it is pure poison and you could never imagine such one sided 'news' ever being broadcast in the UK.
Discuss..........................
Obama should control this by putting George dubbya on trial for war crimes and the torture of "pow's" in Guantanamo Bay.
It won't get very far, but they sure as hell will give FOX something to write about.
ooh.. one of my favourite topics... FNC (Fox news channel) smile
you would never have guessed that FNC is Sky news sister channel in the states.... when american people i know come over here and see Sky News I know they get a pleasent surprise (in fact FNC are stopping sky news from being broadcast in the states)
I tend to watch MSNBC.... only because they drive fox round the bend....
If you are of a left/centrist persuasion and you have a mp3 play... get the rachel maddow podcast on itunes... it is a brilliant take on the news of the day
I really do not give a toss what colour Obama is. He seems like a decent family guy, and he and his wife seem the all perfect American couple.
I am not really interested in American politics to be honest, but what I have seen is Obama is yes different in his approach, but being a youngish president that was always going to be the case.
Most of the past Presidents have been white middle/upper class twats, which is it any wonder America is hated through many parts of the world.
Why do people have to always make reference to a persons colour? It is that persons ability to do the job that matters.
I like Obama, I like his demeanor and his general attitude.
Of course being the first " black " president was always going to put the cat amongst the pigeons in America. I remember Tiger Woods winning the US Masters and that being played in deep south America, did not go down very well. Racism is rife in the States, always has been and always will be, that's life.
But for me Obama ain't nobodys fool, and I think he will be a great President, even though he did not deserve the accolade bestowed upon him recently.
I really hope that whatever he does the colour of his skin, never becomes an issue.

Nope.
George 'dubbya' sat in the electric chair still sounds good to me. Perhaps they could extradite one TB to keep him company. They could even hold hands... A final act of friendship
Well Bara (we're not quite buds or owt) and me have got sumptin in common *scratches head* he's a snappy dresser and wears Cole Haan shoes and I have a Crosby shopper shoulder bag by the same and ok so it aint quite the same but he's obviouslg got a certain amount of calibre *smiling* and he's got a cute smile. I'd do him.
Obama is the biggest empty suit ever to get elected to high office, he makes Jimmy Carter look competant.
Obama won previous elections by getting opponents thrown off the ballot box or by getting court orders to open opponents sealed divorce records to use in a smear campaign. That is why they are now after Romneys tax records as Romney is a dull, tee totaller and happily married.
Obama got the most money ever donated by Wall St but somehow people think he is a man of the people. He has spent millions of dollars in legal fees keeping all his previous records sealed and has still not produced a full written birth certificate (personally I could not care less where he was born)
Obama has made more gaffes than Bush did, has played far more golf than Bush did and racked up more debt than all previous presidents put together. Thanks to a friendly media these facts are nowhere to be found on TV, let alone the truly awful BBC coverage of US politics.
Obama got elected because he was black and could read a teleprompter. When you think about it, it is a very sobering thought that the masses can be so easily led.

Fox is indeed biased but so is CNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC, NPR
I don't think one network biased toward the right wing of politics in the USA is exactly a problem when all the others are biased toward the Democrats.

Obama has not closed Gitmo and is bombing the crap out of Pakistan with drones, killing any number of civilians.
Obama is just as guilty as Bush.
Interesting, opinion hasn't changed much some like some don't, makes me think what would have happened had I been able to find a thread on pre-Thatcher election, 3 years on, 6 years on and 9 years on perhaps even current day thoughts, I wish I could have done that.
Since the forums seem to be quiet with current affairs I think I will have another delve into the past and see if opinions have changed or remained the same on other topics, but I will try to find something more interesting this time.
Believe it or not Obama is of Irish stock - here's where his Grandfather was born:

Darn Paddie's we're everywhere lol
