Our daughter is after a new phone for Christmas and as I know that everyone has their ideas for their perfect phone so I thought you may be able to help.
She's too young for a contract so I'm after a PAYG one and obviously don't want to spend a fortune.
I have an iPhone and would have nothing else (I'm with toots on that one) but I'm not going to spend that much money when she will probably lose it or break it.
She currently has my old blackberry and hates it as much as I did so I think I'm looking for a decent, but not really expensive android phone.
On every Internet search the Samsung Galaxy Ace keeps coming up. Does anyone have one? If so, is it any good? Or do you recommend another?
Thanks for your help x

My Wife has a Samsung Galaxy Ace plus and I have to say it is a lovely phone. She has it in white which sets it off very nicely. It is the best ' cheap ' phone I have seen.
I had an I phone 4 up until last Monday when I started a new contract but went for the new Samsung Galaxy S3. I am at this moment in time not sure about it to be honest. Yes I loved my I phone, but it has not really changed much over many a year and basically fancied a change. The Samsung range is very very good Fun.
The Galaxy Ace would be a very nice move.

I have a htc sensation, i love my phone, i had the iphone but wasnt keen so swapped it, all my kids have the htc and they wont change them either lol xcx
My daughter is too young for a contract phone too, so I just signed her up under my name. We both have an HTC from who do free contract phones from £9 per month:

I'm an apple advocate as well, but I could never see a reason to pay for an iPhone just for calls, texts, and browsing when I already have an iPad. My free HTC Desire C is the mutt's for everything I do, and with my "all you can eat data" plan I can even set it up as a private wifi hotspot to connect up my iPad when I'm out and about. She has the Wildfire S which is very similar to mine and does the hotspot thing too.
My second phone is a Samsung Galaxy Ace and its brilliant. I pay a month which gives me 5000 texts, 100 any time minutes and 250MG data with carphone warehouse Talkmobile.
I've also downloaded which means you can text and send media through the data allowance and its free. Plus its connected to the wireless in the house when at home.
Not too sure how much it is to buy but I really like it
Hi fun yes my phone is samsung galaxy ace too and like it very much, it does what I need, from tescos on contract for 15 quid a month so just check on line plans and payments x
My mate bought her 14yr old daughter a phone ..Htc Wildire S (not to be confused with the Wildfire) for the money £(bout £110) I thought it was an excellent from I think Carphonewarehouse.
HTC Wildfire S Review

Some of the negativity part of the above I reckon was because it was an adult reviewing it for an adult market.
Discontinued phone (nothing new there) but still available.
Thanks for all of the replies.
I'm really not after a contract for her. In my opinion, at 11 she's too young, even for a contract in my name. With pay as you go when the money runs out she can't use the phone and so can't rack up any nice bills. We have friends and family so she can always call me or Lee for free when she has no credit.
I've heard lots of positive stories about HTC, but we took out a contract last year for our son. The woman in the shop was raving about the new HTC radar so we got him it. Its lovely looking but as a smartphone, it's shit! It's not android, it's a windows phone, there's hardly any apps for it and ever since he got it he's been counting down until he can upgrade and get an iPhone. (10 months to go). I know that most HTC phones are android but its kind of put me off them.
Hence the research this time!
Acer Liquid Metal android phone my other half got one, I have a iphone 4s. we both use them on giffgaff not contract and he thinks it is very good. Hope this helps .
I'm old fashioned enough to feel that a phone for an 11 year-old should be for emergencies only and as such only need to make and receive calls and texts. I would also expect to vet and veto all contacts on said phone. But ignore me if I am too out of date. biggrin
My mate at work has a Galaxy, which she says is great, with a Hello Kitty cover. I thought the cover was dire - but a girly girl might well enjoy it. :D

This is the plus version but they also do a Galaxy Ace.
There is nothing in this phone that nobody could not like, even a teenager. lol
I wouldn't dismiss the option of a contract. It'll be a hell of a lot cheaper than PayG and you can set limits, so the young 'un can't rack up a high bill.
I've got a Galaxy Ace..
Nice phone...
I also have a giff-gaff PAYG sim...
I pay £12 per month and I get 250 minutes....
Unlimited texts
Unlimited internet...
