Has anybody any experience of setting up a residents association?
Not a residents association as such but I'm the stair busybody for 16 flats in my stair and organise all the cleaning and gardening and stuff. redface
What do you need to know? The laws are probably different in Scotland than they are in England. Depends what you want to do...

If you go to your local authority website - they may have the information you need there, check out the links page if they have one too.
Alternatively do a google search - check to see if they have other resident (called tenant associations in some areas) association's in your surrounding area. Contact them and ask for advice on setting one up...they may invite you along to one of their meetings.
Personally - I would prefer dealing with the latter as they will have a grass roots view.
beware the council trying to manipulate a new assoc for thier own ends... ours was... chaos ensued.

.......we've contacted the assoc of associate RA's, and they have been very helpful. Really its not so much the logistics of setting an RA up, more wether the people that have been through it thought that it was a good experience in the long run?
More trouble than its worth - no-one can ever agree and there will always be people who never pay. Use a recommended management company. Might seem more expensive, but none of the hassles!
We have a residents association as well as a management company here but I avoid the residents association like the plague!
Sorry not much help from me! smile
