But when soldiers are necessary wouldn`t we all agree that Stormin Norman is the kinda guy we`d send

Is that when you think it necessary or when Governments think it necessary, as many think it is indeed necessary to send soldiers into places that others think is not necessary. ? Oh and no I do not think this is the kind of soldier I would send. All boots and a big gob, our SAS boys are the guys that we should admire.
But the guys dead so I say RIP for that reason and that reason alone.
Nothing wrong with 'Stormin Norman'.
He was a modern day warrior. Led from the front not like many of the more modern 'armchair' equivalents.
Along with the likes of General Sir Mike Jackson, a soldier's soldier.
Sir General Mike Jackson was nothing like the same commander as 'storming Norman'.
SN was nicknamed for his bad temper and was hated amongst his Officers and NCO's but in fairness was loved by his base level troops.
Sir General Mike Jackson was disliked by the ground troops as he never fought a war, much too his own regret. But he oversaw great improvements in the non battle space.
Worked for stormin in 91 supporting 1st air cavs apache teams first in Iraq then into Kuwait. Tactics won it quickly with minimum casualtys for us, rip stormin and oooorah from me.
Better to be led by soldiers who have soldiers as opposed to sand hurst ones who never leave the hotel in the safety zone ... Didn't see one Brit above lt over there.
Proud of our troops and the work they do. Keeps us all safe mostly too.

Sandhurst Officers never leaving the Green Zone? are you for real? British Officers have always suffered a disproportionately greater casualty rate than enlisted men. There are less officers but percentage wise they suffer more. Take a trip to the Chapel inside RMAS one day, the poignancy of that place would melt a man of stone.
You may not like the Etonian background of many Guards and Cavalry Officers but Eton has sacrificed more of its ex pupils than probably any other school in the country.
How can a fresh out if sh officer know what to do in the contact. We said yes sir then asked the sgt what to do ... Experience over Eton for me ... Harry and his apache did superb though so not all from there are useless ... Or killed and named in the chapel smile
May be different now but some other grunts prob now ...

Junior officers know what to do in contact because they have been trained what to do just like other ranks. An Officer completes Sandhurst and a Private completes Pirbright, but from that point on they will complete the same pre deployment training.
It is a luxury to have a competent and dyed in the wool senior NCO to assist the Lt on what is ultimately such a steep learning curve it's nearly vertical.
Knowing and doing are very different things first firefight! Until your in it you just don't know with any rank! Still one of the best trained armies in the world too. Do an amazing job too, but stormin did the biz in 91 and will be missed by all who served and serve.
We need ones like him to keep the bad ones on their toes?
Tough job that and even more so now with the tree jiggers going on about why and poor people over in the Mid East.
Rip norm and thanks for the fun times raising hell apache and a10 style
