I want a 'no idea' option as I would never spend any of my precious time to listen to a lying thieving bastard like Osborn and I haven't caught any discussions about my specific circumstances.
I'd also like GNV and Starlight to stop bickering. It disrupts the thread for those who want to discuss the original subject and it's childish and unpleasant to have to scroll through to get to the next sensible post.
Interesting that 48 hours after the thread was started by Trev ...only 9 people have chosen to take part in their online survey ...
....ONLY 9...
It's not really a suprise, the lethargy in the forums is a constant.
no matter what the budget sets out to do it often turns out to be different.
the housing scheme is already being picked apart and im sure the 3p rise in fuel duty which was scrapped will be added on by the fuel companies anyway.
building power stations to meet the uk's demand is all well and good but edf want to double the price it can charge for the electricity or they will turn around and just not build all them planned jobs wont happen and we will get power from the french like we do at the moment.
banks wont lend to help start up new businesses. even though the money has been made available for them to do this.
i had to borrow money from a friend after a i was turned down. i repayed him in 6 months with interest. so i moved all my banking from the banks which turned me down and also sent letters to my MP proving the banks were not assisting in trying to turn the economy around.
a cut in vat would have helped and also the cut in corperation tax is another thing which may help in attracting business but on the other side of the coin employers are not willing to pay what is reasonable in today climate with ever increasing standards of living, so they still maybe put off doing business here.
in all i do not think the budget will change much for they you can never tell what is around the corner.
It is a very well thought out stratedgy
1p off a pint, if you drink 10 pints a day that will save you 70p a week on your alcohol bill, a big reason to head back to the pubs and stop buying your beer from the supermarket and drinking at home, of course if you do drink 10 pints a day your not going to be around too long to reap the benefit.
Pub Landlords interviewed after the event did say they wouldn't be passing on the discount because they were already struggling to make a profit with recent price rises they face in all aspects of running the pub. Still if they sell a thousand pints a week they at least will benefit to the tune of £10 a week, perhaps not enough to save them from closing though.
Me I would have lowered or removed the VAT on products made in Britain to boost production in UK factories, if other countries object I have a finger to show them, I am sure they would resist refusing to deal with the UK, resist the temptation to stop selling us cars ad other products.
The loss of VAT income would be compensated by the increased tax revenues from greater sales of UK made products and a decrease in unemployment.
legal, I don't know these days but the Germans did it many years ago, Mervestoiyer (has to be spelt wrong) the German VAT did not have to be paid on German made products, it didnt matter who owned the Company providing the jobs and factories were in Germany (toyota Derby here in the UK qualify for example)
Buy a Mercedes, VW, BMW etc and there was no VAT to be paid, this made their home products more financially competative against their imported rivals, a £25,000 car would be £5000 cheaper on the forecourt making Mercedes more competative against the Jaguar imported from the UK.
It would also encourage companies to locate european manufacturing here in Britain instead of say, in France. Japanese electronic companies could be swayed here instead of other places in Europe.
Setting our own rules on VAT cannot be any different from subsidising farming or other industries, or paying lower salaries as happens when we compete with the Koreans or India, it's just a local discount not an increase to other Countries.
Thats a fair example, but as I said I'm not sure it's legal. There are far better business minds than mine on this forum, one of them will probably be able to shed light onto the matter.
I just get the feeling that it would break some trade agreement or be against a competition law somewhere.
