I assume I am numbered amongst them.....
Thing is I am as successful and wealthy as any man could ever wish to be..
I have all the money and possessions any man could need these are not where my wealth or success lie.
I love and am loved by many people both family and friends no man is more successful than me.
I have food and shelter no man is richer than me.
I do not hate wealth and success I have more than enough of both to share.

lol Me too
You make a good and valid point and you have made very well.
However, You make it sound Staggs as though money is not important, which of coarse it is not, to a point. But sadly in this world, in this day and age, if you have little or too little money or are finding it hard to make ends meet, life is much harder and not so sweet. Therefore however much we pretend we have no need for money, we are fooling our selves.

It isn't and never will be the money that's important...money is just a means of exchange

But if you have non to exchange, life can be much more difficult
I don`t have anything
I work hard for my pay, too hard for not much pay infact
What I do have is the love of a fabulous man, the love of a great family, this is my wealth.
I know people who have money and can have wahtever they like when they like, good for them I say.
:sleeping::sleeping:
So much easier having money, and even more rewarding when you have worked hard to get it.
People who usually scoff at others who have it, are usually the ones who wish they did too.
Success is measured in what someone achieves in life...you achieve nothing then you resent those who have.
Money may not be as important to some as it is to others, but having money means you can buy lovely things, and buy a lovely house.
Very easy to be envious of someones wealth, when you have none yourself.
The word Socialist and Communist usually means those who have nothing want those that have to distribute to those who have not. Bollocks to that ideal....work hard and reap the rewards, doss around and get bugger all.
Some comments in this thread obviously come from those who do not have, but feck do they wish they did, but obviously very easy to say that when you have no chance of getting what you really envy someone else for having.

" envious of someone else’s achievements or advantages "
Being around my family is the best thing. Money is nothing when you have nearly lost the people you love.
To think money and items are that important shows how shallow the person can be. They are welcome to their sad lives.
Dave_Notts
Nothing at all to be sad about here Davey.
I have my health...a lovely wife.....lovely kids....two fantastic Grandkids.
Also many lovely material things...too many to mention.
Sad? Certainly not in this house, could not be happier.
Shallow? Certainly not my big Koi pond. wink
You do take all posts as directed at you Kenty. I am replying to the OP and not you. When I start to read people bragging or gloating then I just skip the post and stop reading whatever they put in that thread.
If money makes you happy, you are welcome to it. When people put money above everything else then in my eyes they are sad

Yes Davey because most usually are.
Once again I appologise for taking your comments the wrong way.
Funny how it seems you have done everything, been everywhere, and had everything.
Or maybe you say you have just to be able to argue the point?
Just a point someone levelled at me the last time you made a similar claim.
Still just got into work so cannot hang around have jobs to sort out for the staff. Five in the morning and already on my second coffee.
Capitalism eh?

Success is measured by what you are not what you've got....I covet nothing you or anyone else has
The grsss is often greener !!!!
i feel privileged to be in the position im in but i don`t work for what i have now i work to retire very early and enjoy more than my twilight years with my wife and still be supple enough to do some of the things we cant now due to time etc
should i accomplish this then my life will have been a success
When I was young I never understood how much money my family had. Oh, we were not that rich. We still had to work, and I had my jobs in the summer. I was happy then, perhaps I was just young?
My family lost most of it, not that I was dependant on it after 18. I worked, I enjoyed life, but one year ago I changed jobs, took a pay cut and now have more time for life. Money is not everything.

You see Staggs that is where very often you go wrong.
A word has a meaning...a proper meaning. You cannot use a word and make it suit your own purpose.
The meaning of the word in the English Dictionary states " the attainment of fame, wealth, or social status ".

Or to be more correct:
success • noun
1 the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
2 the attainment of fame, wealth, or social status.
3 a person or thing that achieves success.
Of course you didn't choose 2 just because it suited your purpose and ignore 1 because it didn't.
see below..seems it duplicated again !!!!!
I personally would say count success as being content and happy....and seeing your family being the same. Now lets be honest here a certain level of money helps in this achievment. But as the saying goes said " Enough is as good as a feast " .
I have changed jobs for more money, and not enjoyed what I was doing, and how I had to work. Was the fact i was earning more sucess ? I think not....I soon changed again, took a pay cut and enjoyed working again.
What we all should measure our success on, is quaility of life. No matter how much money you have, if you have a good quality of life, you are indeed a rich man. ( or woman)
We should all be grateful that we live in a country where we are afforded the opportunities to become successful.
We should all be grateful that we live in a country where education is available to all
We should all be grateful that we live in a country where health is available to all
Though we often find it all too easy to take all this for granted. Even though it is easy to flick though the news and see the truth, see how lucky we are compared to most of the rest of the world !

my sentiments exactly dave.
i believe people who have to tell everyone how well they have done, and how happy they are just try and kid themselves and others of real winners in this world need to say nothing their success and happiness is written all over their faces.
I was fortunate to be in a position to retire 8 years ago - not fabulously wealthy, but house paid for and a small nest egg tucked away. I was earning a six figure salary (not including the decimal pointssmile.
Since then I have lived frugally but contentedly, blissfully happy that I don't have to be anywhere I don't choose to be, free to pursue my other interests. of which I have many. I've done a bit of odd jobbing, just to get by, and completed another degree.
It's been a blast, I can survive on less than £10k pa and still run two cars (sadly the motorbike has been mothballed for 2 years though), take foreign holidays and several mini breaks at hotels.
As long as I have sufficient funds to cover my basic costs, I'm happy not to have to get up at 5 am and work a 70 hour week.
However, sadly, I do now have to get some part time employment as for the first time since retiring, I've had to cash in some savings to insure the cars (yes I have reasons for having 2 cars on the road).
I miss the money sometimes, but no amount of money can buy you time back.
(Ps I'm a bloody good decorator and can turn my hand to a variety of odd jobs if anyone has any requirements in the West Mids :)
Its all been said really.
I walk round with a smile because I am content.

They are true enough words Bear.
This thread was started purely because of a comment I made in another thread.
Politically I detest Socialist values and what they stand for. I am tired of hearing from others how they detest the wealthy in society, and how the rich should give awy their fortune to the poor buggers sat at home all day browsing the internet.
In the " real world " out there I never say anything about what I have or what I want but....on a forum where those people cannot see it " written all over ones face " it is the only way of putting across ones point of view.
I for one do not care what anyone on here thinks of me, I have already stated that I am more than content with my lot.
I know people who have had wealth and then lost it all, so realise that money whilst it can buy you many things, it is not the be all and end all, but it helps.
It angers me beyond belief when I read comments from people who have little, slagging off the haves...of which most have worked damned hard for....The green eyed monster springs to mind. wink
You really don't understand do you ?My socialism is not born of jealousy (I have non)but of compassion and the belief that everyone has a duty to protect and aid their fellow man.I understand that your measure of success is wealth and that having to give some of it back to help others pains you but you are and always will be wrong...the world does not judge your success only you can do that....and the only meaningful measure of success is your opinion of who you are not what you own
Oh and b.t.w......

But people allow the pursuit of money to blind them to what really matters.
If we accept that there will never be a thing that makes us happy, and instead try to find contentment in what we have we live a far better life.

Agreed

Oh and b.t.w......

I already give 40% back of it in tax ffs.
Nobody has a duty to do anything to their fellow man. You make your own luck in life.
I contribute via my taxes to help my fellow man, I do not see the need to contribute anymore than I already do, which btw is no doubt a lot more than the average person.
No fucker out there ever helped me....I have what I have through my own Capitalist hard work!
