Not listening......la la la.....I can't hear you.
Bugger, you're typing.
Some interesting facts I have found out is that on one side of my family they were master hatters.
Mercury used to be used in the making of hats. affected the nervous systems of hatters, causing them to tremble and appear insane. Hence the term “Mad as a hatter” come from.
So all those here that think I am mad it is in my genes
The French side were weavers and settled in thread Needle Street in London, The weavers lived a good life working for royalty until the cotton industries took over and they all became poor.
There is still a house in thread Needle Street that depicts the good and bad times of the weavers. One floor shows the living conditions when they were rich. The other floor shows how they then lived when poor.
Found this old threat whilst looking for something else....
I have so much to write hear:
Lets start with the American family.
Over the last 4years we have managed to trace my American family back to mid 1800s. We have managed to find the graves for my great grandfather and grandmother...as well as three brothers and sisters of my grandfather.
We have also been able to find the graves of my great great grandmother and there children where there is a memorial headstone thanks to someone who is taking photos of headstones to preserve them.
Also after a bit more digging we found a distant cousin who had photos of my family and we can see the family resemblance.
We have found a number of us draft records as well..
I won't go in to my English family that is complicated lol
I've been doing this on and off since 2006, but I had a head start as I already knew the names of all of my great grand parents and a couple of my great great grand parents.
Several surprises along the way, the most noteworthy for general readers is that I'm directly descended from William the Conqueror ( who'd have thought it) via John of Gaunt's (duke of Lancaster, son of Edward III) illegitimate daughter
Some other interesting stuff too, regarding personal circumstances of more recent ancestors that is cool but would mean nothing to anyone else
I am related to royalty now.....well I am a Middleton....so now cousin Kate has married Willie....somewhere don the line I am heir to the throne !!!
The male bloodline in my family stops at 1904...due to my great grandmother having a child without the father being known by anyone, the last person who may have known (her sister, my great great aunt) died in 1969.
The other side of the family were shepherds from Leicestershire. But have only gone back as far as 1841 and then decided what was the point. My better half has got history back to 1647 and luckily one of her distant cousins made their tree available to her and it filled in a lot of gaps.
i dont care about my family past or present.
they only come round when they want money or other time they dont give a shit.
