A rather posh tripod that does fancy things and some reet funky software.
Camera used is an Canon Eos7d, I have the same camera and I haven't taken a decent shot with it since I've owned it but the photographer in that shot along with his gigapan sure has it bang on *jealous look*

multishot will take a bunch of photos in a short period 1-2sec, time lapse for multiple shots over a longer period.
for controlled time lapse you need an intervalometer as not many camera's do controlled time lapse, there is a plug in for cannon camera software that allows time lapse control.
