Hi Stephen, welcome to the site and I do hope this idea of yours works out and you do get some responses. However, the reason 'new' people are not normally included in the socials is because we know nothing about them and until we at least have some idea if they are genuine or not, most people do not want to take the risk of meeting. The problem with the meet you are suggesting is because you are also very new, other new people will not know if you are genuine or just someone trying to take advantage of other non-experienced members of the site.
The best way to get involved is to stick around for a while and let people get to know you. Take your time and dont be in a rush to have everything straight away. enjoy chatting to people and let us know a bit about the real you, and not just the 'physical' type of things you can find out from reading an advert.

Stephen, you have made the first move, and that is by posting something 
that first post is always the hardest and I am sure that loads of us on here would hate it if we were ever reminded of our very first posts :lol:
You have to think of this place more as a community group than a quick meet site. We like to know a little about people and enjoy having a laugh (and taking the mikey). You could try doing a post in the cafe telling people a bit about you and just take it from there. other ways are to just start joining in with other peoples threads, like Fred and I have done, but be careful not to hijack someones thready by completely taking over and changing the subject.
Think of an evening on this place likea night out in the local pub. Imagine you have just moved into the area and want to get to know people, while showing them you are a nice decent bloke. Join in but dont step on toes or be too cheeky/cocky, and most of all, have fun while you are getting known!
