HI Folks
(Update for those not having read the previous thread etc) votes for Plymouth won, so the meet is in Plymouth on Aug. 13th.)
This is to be the new thread for the Devon / Cornwall, social meet.
On Saturday Aug. 13th biggrin
Hopefully this will leave room for those wanting a Bristol Munch on the other thread, and stop any confusion.
An Exeter venue has been found, although ukmike's poll, suggests Plymouth is the most popular of the two options. So we are trying to find a suitable location in Plymouth over the next few days. If no joy, we shall fall back on the Exeter option. Either venue will have accomodation nearby, and hopefully be easy to find, for those travelling from further away
The meet is intended to be a relaxed social meet in a pub. Everyone welcome :D
If you want to come along to this drunken orgy, er quiet get together :D Please PM me, so I can let you know where to come.
Any suggestions / thoughts welcome, as this is a group effort down here, although my name usually pops up. So feel free to PM me etc.

Looking forward to meeting all you people who have expressed an interest in this social and also any of you folks who haven't got round to doing so yet. It should be a good night. wink
Also looking forward (hopefully we'd get an invite) to a Bristol meet whenever that may be, just need someone to be in a position to arrange one now. Sure Devon1 would have given it a go if he had felt able to do so. As it is, thank you Devon1 for taking this on and lets hope the rest of the arrangements go smoothly.

At Last some sanity! , A social for us poor folks in Devon and Cornwall would be great I am up for it and will be there if its either exeter or plymouth. I dont think alot of people realise how long it takes to get anywhere from down in cornwall espicially in the summer (fecking caravans!!! mad :x )
NCB
biggrin
exeter would be better for me but i would like to meet new people as i am new to exeter but if its at the outher place i will do my best to get im invited that is lol
great news,
ill pm you devon1 to ensure my name gets on this list.
thank you for taking the time to organise this.
looking forward to meeting all of those who manage to attend.
hopefully now we have a date this could be made a sticky by one of the mods?
understand its not such a big organised event as a munch, but big trees from little acorns grow and all that, so heres hoping it recives the support with attendies to make this a regular thing.
xxxx fem xxxx
ps, if any one in cornwall would like to discuss sharing a lift if they have no transport give me a shout and well see what can be done .
Just wondered if this is a booking in a private room of a pub?....only living in Exeter I know only too well just how packed EVERY Exeter pub is on Saturday nights.
Might be difficult to expect to find seats in any Exeter pub on a Saturday night...being a University City and all that.
Do have to ask if it therefore wise making the meet on a Saturday night?
Invisage everyone turning up to a completely packed pub and not being able to sit together...which is needed for a social meet.
well done devon 1 i will definatley be there to show support and meet some of you guys i have a 8 seater if lifts are needed anything i can do just give me a shout
HI Miss J
The event is just a pub meet, a friendly social get together biggrin
I agree a saturday night might perhaps be busy in some pubs, but some folks with family / work commitments may not be able to make any other arrangements, on other nights.
I know you organise the two4two club nights in Exeter, so if you want to offer any advice on organising, feel free :D
Would def be interested in attending wether in Exeter or Plym. Don't know Exeter that well and even though I lived in Plym for 30 odd years redface I'm darned if I can think of a suitable venue for a Sat night social dunno especially at this time of year.
were slipping down the list,
any chance of this being made a sticky?
xxx fem xxx
Think we need to name a place for it to be a sticky fem.
Am getting there lol . I am trying to find some time off of work to, do a bit of scouting around Plymouth biggrin Thats where the majority of folk seem to be. Hopefully by the weekend, this wil be sorted. Have had a few useful ideas via PM. If anyone has anymore keep them coming :D
Perhaps if there are sufficient people interested, it might be an idea to think about booking a function room within a pub. Would solve busy sat nite pub problem. dunno
i dont agree with plymouth logistics and all that, exeter is near as damn it half way between bristol and penzance 82 miles to bristol 102 to penzance, pretty central to the south west, but move it to bristol and all of a sudden swindon is nearer than plym, outh, we will support it all we can and be there, but bristol is too far
HI MissPussinboots
Good idea on the function room, but to be honest I haven't the time to find one at present, bad enough trying to find a decent pub lol. Also a case of getting folks to send money etc, not something i want to do at present. I know it may be busy in a pub on a saturday night, but we have to start somewhere biggrin If its a good pub it shouldn't be a problem, just get there early and hog all the seats lol.
Hopefully we can chat about the idea of a function room at the meet :D Then if sufficient people are interested, maybe we could try that idea next time.
I am out again tomorrow night looking for a pub in Plymouth, have had a few good Pm's, so shall chase these up. So hopefuly by the end of the weekend we shall have a definite place to meet up in Aug.
Last time I looked at ukmike's Poll, Plymouth was winning, against Exeter. So with majority rule etc, I am assuming thats where the meet will be.
Enjoy your weekend :D
at last something happening in this part of the world. good for you dev. i would definately like to attend and put some faces to names. always good meeting new people. plymouth gets my vote by the way....cornwall people are right in that it is a bummer getting anywhere.
Plymouth it is biggrin
Have now managed to find a pub for the meet on Sat. August 13th. The majority of votes on ukmikes poll, are still for Plymouth,so thats where the meet will be.
The pub is easy to find, about 5-10 mins walk from a travel lodge, for those wanting to stay. Other Hotels etc, are in the area.
The pub is quite lively, mixture of age groups and a variety of dress, from jeans to clubwear etc. A decent carpark is nearby.
I shall PM those interested, where the pub is nearer the time, and suggest how we recognise each other. If anyone is travelling from further away, and need a bit more info about whereabouts the meet is, PM me.
If you want to come along, PM me, and i shall add you to the list. So far we have a good mix of folks :D
So there we have it. Plymouth meet, Saturday August 13th :D
Perhaps I can offer a few pointers regarding premises for munches/Club Meets.
Finding a stand alone function room on a Friday or Saturday would prove to be most difficult in places like Exeter...Plymouth...or Bristol.
I say this from experience of holding Couples events in the Southwest for the last Eighteen months, one of the major obstacles for us has been finding premises on weekends. Even renting a small club in Exeter on a Thursday is nearly Two Hundred Pounds...and that's without paying for security doormen and DJ for the night.
So the best way to go is to just find a pub that is a bit quieter on a weekend, they do exist in some places (Not in Exeter due to the large University)
We have in the past used a public Pub disco in South Devon that is open once a month, it was ideal for mixed nights and because it was a low key country pub disco we never all stood out like sore thumbs!
We will make ever effort to attend the munch, Plymouth sounds a good place to hold it.
We are out of the country soon for a month but will be most interested in coming along.
'J'
im coming but i am new to exeter and never been to plymouth so need help getting there.
So is it allowable to bring a couple who do not have internet access and can not access SH?
I know of such a couple and I'd like to drag them along...
As far as I understand, this is a SH social, for those of us that meet on the forums to get to know one another. I know that a Munch is only intended for SH members and I would have thought that a smaller meeting would have had similar rules. confused
Misspussinboots is right i am afraid, have chatted to the mods about this. Its a case of we know who should be there. If all goes well, and we get to know one another better, then who knows for another time. Another thing is, we have to keep an eye on numbers, at the moment we have a good number, and mix of people, which is ideal for the venue.
I have no problem with having only SH members present and if it is policy I certainly will not bring them to the Munch. They only have to go to the right places and their sure to meet couples who only want couples - after all I meet enough without even trying... rolleyes
I've suggested the two4two night if they want to meet indoors.
BTW How many people are listed as attending the SW Munch?
HI Folks
Have chatted to the mods, and decided to created a new final thread for the Plymouth meet, on Aug 13th. This new thread, can then be stickied, and stop the thread sinking down the forum, when no comments are made.
If you have already PM'd me, dont worry your on the list.
Looking forward to meeting you all biggrin
