I just caught up with it all, and if his whole point was to manipulate his target audiance in order to support some psychological theory, then it was totally unethical and showed great disrespect for the people involved. It's one thing to make observations about how people interact, even to the point of adjusting your own approach so you can be received better, that shows some consideration for the people themselves, but trying to provoke and tap into negativity for selfish reasons alone is just nasty. If it's to support acedemia, then people need to know they are being used as guinea pigs. I often let people know that I gain a great deal of insight from here, I don't always say when and where, but I at least extend the honesty that I do. It's the least people deserve, and I only do it out of interest.
I think he has a great deal to learn about himself before he can jusify learning about others.

Fool's Pie
Take 3 parts gibberish, add one part drivel. Leave to stand for 25 minutes.
Add a full sulk followed quickly by a small dash of vitriol
Leave to stand overnight
Next morning, stir furiously while stamping your feet.
Top with a flounce and serve.
Oh, and don't forget, we live in a frugal age. Before you leave the kitchen, at least try and save some face.

Well, there is a very good chance he made up the story about needing to write an essay, both to suggest that he was able to manipulate people to support his theories, therefore he'd taken everyone for a fool, and as a tool to backpeddle from his original remarks.
Either way he was being an arrogant twat.

Totally agree Venus. If indeed he was using the responses to support his theories he would need much more than the response on it's own. He would need to know things like, were they m / f ? ages, ? the individuals situation prior to asking the thread? etc not just the response on it's own. Well not if his essay was going to hold any merit (not if I was marking it) :jagsatwork: No-one could possibly determine what someone is like simply by one response to a question. Either the course he is doing is very basic or like you said he is back peddaling redface
