Hello everyone,
Is there anything going on in London in the near future: socials, parties, yoga retreats, naked Twister, dirty-word Scrabble, dog-walking without the dogs... anything?
if more people who put their names down for the London socials showed up ....
it might be worth the bother of organising them!!!
Bravo mon petit chou-fleur!
lol
The kent socials are always fun and not too far to go, or the regular Saturday nights at Eureka are great too! Check out the forum page lets meet up section - or you could buy me a large glass of wine - I will bring the scrabble!
People not showing up is the plague of Internet meeting sites. Believe me, I have arranged meetings -- and travelled a long way to get to them -- only to be met with no-shows. However, if we arrange something in London, at least we'll show up, won't we?
Damn I was only there last week too rolleyes

the problem is that traditional people have tried to set up meets and socials for london, but they have ended up being really poorly supported....
the one that sticks with me is the 95 confirmations that a person got for a london munch... only for 29 people to actually turn up on the night... leaving the organisor out of pocket.....
hopefully that will change, it doesn't tend to happen at northern events at all.......
give it a go organising an event and hopefully it will take off.....
It's an especially bad business if people spend their own money, only to be let down by no-shows. Are smaller meetings in, say, a pub, library or supermarket acceptable?. In other words, meetings that don't involve the organiser spending anything except for his/her time to organise the meeting?
Perhaps a nominal fee for whatever booking cost can be suggested? This has so far worked for a number of the socials outside London I've been lucky to attend.
Ofcourse there's the issue of venue and date - however its not impossible. Suggestions?
thinking more of the couples who came to one of the pub socials ... travelling long way and booking hotels for maybe after social fun later in the evening ...and it just winds up the usual crowd and we end up having a good gossip and way more to drink thans good for us...
bet those who dont turn up ears burn..... biggrin
but a good night anyways twos xx

Lets put it to the test once more...Lets turn this into a LMU Event. Can some one suggest a date and let the party begin.
 wink
I am sure that if there was some way of notifying SH of people that did a 'no show' and it was put on there references ( a bit like e-bay ) that would stop it.
i would certainly love to hear of any events
There have already been several different people replying to this thread. That leads me to believe that at least the people who have posted here will turn up. That's not a bad start. I think that we should try to do something very relaxed in a pub on a date that everyone who's been looking at this thread finds convenient. What say you?

u always miss em or turn up after we gone anyway.... biggrin
got 2 bank hol weekends coming up soon.....
Ive attempted three social type affairs in London and the grand attendance was three (ie me each time).
They were at things I'd have gone to anyway so whilst mildly irritating I had a good time.
I have been to a social or two in London and had great time.
Good luck mate

Harry,
I notice that you are organising something in Thetford this weekend. Hope that it goes well. If anybody is up for a pub meet tomorrow (Saturday), leave a post here. Or am I being hopelessly over-optimistic?

The usual place in Wiltshire ( details via pm nearer the date ) We have great fun, usually about a dozen of us, plenty of stuff to see around the area. Get your name down :D

Unfortunately its not that simple  There is a zillion things that can happen between someone putting their name down to attend a social and the actual date. That is life and doesn't account for those who confirm and then don't show with no warning or anything, but they may not be to blame either confused Its all hit & miss and guessing

I'd naturally have it in whatever section was nearest to the toilets -- and well away from the Barbara Cartland novels!
It looks like I have been a little naive with regard to a possible meet-up in London. Anyway, if anybody is interested, you know where to post your intentions.

I don't think you've been naive at all - don't ask don't get! Post a date for a meet and see what happens. Sometimes you find just the right person, sometimes you don't.
Good luck wink
Lets have a date on this one Two's would you get the calendar hun..xx wink
