Sadly this thread didnt stay put on page 1 for very long and I felt it needed to maintain its self via interest for it to be a worthy event.
Will be planning some alternative event for this date but wont be a munch or social. Keep eyes on forum smile
This does not refer to the August 19th social which is still on
hi,shame about the other bristol munch but would like to be considered for this onesmile can be seen in and around chatrooms and forums so hope to hear back:) southernmalex

August social is still on I just stopped bumping the topic at this site as no names were going down. We still have 20 ish people signed up from another site.
As above this is by no means a done deal its a heads up on interest for the event.
Letzplaytoo apologies for not responding to you the other night in chat ref question about the August social. We had our cam on and were watching a cam and it slowed our PC til it became unresponsive sad Any questions about August social send PM.

Sadly not read top post.
Thanks for the support though.
i'll tell you what was putting me off putting my name down for this.... and i did think about many many times before i decided to wait and see what happened
rather than saying "do you want a munch on sept 30th.. " i wish you had just said " right Munch in bristol - sept 30th" and just got on with organising it....
because for people not in the immediate area you put us in a quandry...
for example...Do you take the risk of organising a babysitter for an event to may not take place... do you shell out for travel/ hotel accom for an event that may not take place ect...
If i had said yes i want to come along and gone about planning everything for you to turn round and say.... "well i didn't get the response i wanted so i have backed out" you potentially would have cost me a lot of money
you were at the last bristol munch.. you know that if you organise it that people will come and that it would be well attended and people will come from all over the country from them... so why not just take the risk and get the munch stickied.....

In our experience there is the opposite side to the coin i.e. as you know I am organising another event for which I booked a room initialy for 45 people the end result will be lucky to see 15-20. We have also attended other events that had multiple people on the list only to see 8 turn up.
This proposed munch was as munchs go at short notice so it needed a pretty massive response straight off to be viable. Dont forget also the costs involved in for organising, 60 for this room plus 50 deposit 10 per hour extension plus the fine for excessive bar staff if not enough people show, not money I have to throw away. It was a great venue that I could have had via a work contact but there were costs involved.
Events sadly do get canceled and I would rather not start the organisation than cancel one, it happened to us it can be a pain but
We dont organise sitters until around 2 weeks before
Leave can be canceled
Hotel bills arnt due til you check out
We have the social on the 19th of August we are doing our bit. I actualy find the whole process of event organisation easy, whats hard is getting the numbers.
Cheers
Regarding hotels only being paid for at checkout - bargains can be had whereby you either pay up front or it cannot be cancelled. You need to take that into consideration. Attending a Munch can be expensive and people have to see where they can cut costs to be able to afford to attend. We attend munches and Socials all over the country and are always looking for a way of keeping the cost down. We wouldn't go for a 'possible, maybe' event. If you commit, others commit. that's the risk you take in organising an event.

You say this like we donk know already?
Yeh we know the risks thats why we asked for interest from only people who were DEFINATELY interested so I dont think we have let anyone down. NO one was asked to do anything other than sumbit an interest in the proposed event.
cheers
