If it's just a social thing then why couples only?? I'm confused here. What happens if the couple breaks up? Who get custody of the social evenings.
I think it's a rotten idea if you confine it to couples only.

It isn't a rotten idea at all. The NW Posse have had several bowling nights, a barbeque and have been out hill walking ............. it's been very successful and long may it continue to be so.
One of the reasons for its success is the mix of people there, it's evenly balanced. It's not a munch, it's not a Swinging Heaven social event, it's just a group of people trying to organise a series of days/evenings out.
It doesn't have to be open to anyone other than the person that's organising it wants it to be.

How about a night at the dogs? That is Greyhound racing. It can workout quite cheap for a party booking. And there are stadiums in the North East that are not too far away from swingers clubs for those that want to lose their knickers after losing their shirts!!!

Couple only ensures that people feel more comfortable about going because they already have a guaranteed friend there, and the females in the couple are less afraid of being harassed by dozens of single males.
Whilst there is obviously a lot of time for singles, couples etc. in a social meeting, it is not fair to criticise a group who prefers couples only - it's just like a TV-only meet or gay-only etc.
There are plenty of munches where everyone is invited - just take up those instead!

Good... cos otherwise I would be very very unhappy. Can't see anyone else making the point though so your comment is rather pointed.
Just for the record - I object to the philosophyof the couples only thing - there are people now in the couple category who, not that long ago, were single and complaining rather vocally about the exclusion of single males (especially) from invitations. Smacks of hypocrisy frankly.
Not that either my partner or I can bowl in a straight line.

I still don't understand why there has to be an even balance of males and females just for a game of bowls....or any other events, especially if as you say, it's purely social.

If any singles dont like the idea of being excluded from couples only events then they are quite free to organise their own single-included version themselves. They could even get revenge by not inviting any couples .

The purpose of the thread was to try to start up a NE social group similar the the NW one but without PLC (luv ya really)
In the real world its like a "couples" night out or day out !
It seems to work really well in the NW ............... with an even number of males and females ............. single males and single females pair up and come to the events together ..... but they still come ................
So, If singles want to join us ............post on here that you need a companion for the event, find one and join us ! :lol:
