Thanks DJ - never been to Newcastle so if people are tending to head towards a particular hotel can you let me know please?

I would advise booking a hotel asap, there are a few Premier Inns in Newcastle town centr. 

I've created a group for the social.  When it's approved, I'll add you all and post some hotels there.
