Depending on how much interest you can generate that's exactly what you want. A pub that has some kind of function room for private parties.
It really does need someone to take charge and be the focal point though or the interest dwindles because people don't think it's being organised properly. Toss a few ideas around in this thread and if you can come up with an organiser, a venue and a date then get him/her to start a new thread with the basic details.
You're far better starting the thread with "There is gonna be a munch in the South, It will be in Portsmouth on this date, the venue is arranged, who wants to come?" rather than "I'm going to arrange a munch in Portsmouth, when's the best date and does anybody know a good venue?". That's when the debate starts and people lose confidence.
