Good Question though really newryan cos i`ve been wanting to go to a club for ages and i`ve read all the reviews n stuff on here but never really know what to believe!! 
maybe i`m a cinic but wheneva i read a rave review of a club i can`t help thinkin it`s been posted by the owners of that club :!:

Be nice to maybe chat to some couples or singles who go to one of these clubs and would really genuinely recommend one and meet up in one to make that 1st time a bit less daunting.

Speaking as a single meself, I think its not really possible to give you a definitive answer. What is good for one person, doesnt suit another. Also, a good buzzing active atmosphere at a club one night can be completely different another.
Ive visited Partners, Adam & Eves, I used to visit Liaisons quite often. I still get to Chameleons whenever I can. Now Im a regular (daytime) at Cupids, which is my favourite, and the busiest of that bunch, at least when I have attended.
One good recommendation, given your proximity to it, is Infusion in Blackpool. It is still finding its feet and is generally quite quiet but as a single has the following advantages:
1. Its quiteish, so the times ive been there with my F-Buddy, the few single guys in have been outnumbered by the couples and they have had the opportunity to say hello, and make some form of conversation, ,making it quite easy for them to get involved in our playing.
2. Theres stuff to do as a single without sitting around looking like a lurker or desperate tw%t, which is the big mistake many singles make. Plenty of chance to use the pool, or sit at the bar, or lounge in the jacuzzi, and because these areas are open plan, still be within the central hub of the club. No need to follow couples everywhere all night long.
3. Its a nice place, clean, well laid out & great facilities.
4. Singles prices are OK.
5. The owners are very friendly and welcoming people.
I dont go as a single because its a 150 mile round trip and the day is my playtime, so Cupids is perfect for me.
As another member suggests, read the posts, take them at face value, then just go somewhere & see.
