So fellas.... come on! Someone somewhere must know of a bit of tomfoolery going down in the Croydon / London area? Yours truly is dying to test out the new improved hardware - all in the name of science you understand.

Hi Heather
Reckon I'm quite near you.
you have a PM coming your way....
Sex God
Hi Richard... you have a PM in response to your PM.
Is that really a photo of your face in your Avatar? If so... you're a lot braver than I am! The vicar could be watching! redface

Heather, the London Munch is on Saturday, are you going to that? Or did you mean a more private tomfoolery than that redface
Warming the Bed
no, that's not me, that is in fact He Who Was Caught Having A BJ In A Taxi In New York By A Lady Of Ill Repute.
I do apparently look a little bit like him though.
Can't see it myself.
....oh hello Father, how are you? Haven't seen you since Sunday! wink

Richard... now you come to mention it, I can see that it's a pic of Hugh Grant.... in which case I'd pull it pronto before the man himself or his agent stumbles across it. redface Still pictures of famous people are subject to the same copyright laws as films - you couldn't just stream Four Weddings without permission.
Misschief...
The Munch is in the afternoon, isn't it? Sadly I'll be working hard.... sad

...mmm, perhaps... can't imagine Hugh would complain any more than Eric Clapton might about Gmanxxx using his pic.
Perhaps it's time for a change of avatar though... let me see what I can find.
Sex God
That's better... I like the new look. biggrin
Gman's using Eric Clapton? rolleyes Bad move if you ask me, Gman.... Piccies taken of famous people are usually taken by professionals (unless snapped in the street) and are referred to as "professional images". Being slightly involved in the film industry, (long story), I can name several famous folks who would blow a gasket at the photo being used on a site like this.
Trouble is I view this site in 16 colours - even longer story, don't ask, so a lot of graphics just pass me by..... sad
Now... where were we?
Erm....

I'm not meaning to hijak your thread Heather, but do cartoon characters as avatars follow the same copyright laws as "real" filmstars? I wouldn't want my little blue dog avatar to upset the real Blue from Blues Clues and I don't want a flock of angry under 5s chasing me cos I've upset their favourite Nick Junior star redface
Sex God
Put it this way, Blue...
It's more to do with how the image was obtained. But in general I shouldn't think cartoons would cause too much trouble. It's very possible for a skilled artist to recreate a still of the Simpsons for instance... in which case they couldn't prove you lifted it from an official source. But photographs of real people can only come from an authorised sorce and re-producing them without permission is technically theft.
Having said that, I wouldn't put money on Disney NOT attempting to sue anyone that recreated one of their characters without clearence.
The bottom line is, can you afford to defend a breach of copyright case regardless of the outcome? Disney can....

Um redface
Fred found my little blue dog avatar for me, so I'll just say that I accepted it as a gift and Fred can pay the law suit  wink
Now, back to the thread....
