Yep, brilliant film Corrie, saw it last week.....you can't deny that Michael Moore has a big ego, but it was very enjoyable, disturbing, and funny in equal measures....
Mike.
Not seen it yet nor have i seen his last film about columbine but i will get round to them, most people i know who have seen them say they are v good
You've convinced me, Corrie,
Last year when I was on my 'gap year' I went to see ' Bowling For Columbine' in Australia just as the whole war thing was gaining momentum and it was chilling. Although not made for those times it fitted perfectly.
Jezzay.
I`ve heard it`s a very slanted doco, but I suppose it should be in order to balance out everything else thats slanted! I also heard that it`s probably not a good idea to watch it if you are easily effected by disturbing images/reports.I was a mess when I saw the clean up footage of the attack on the Kurds. I won`t be watching it, I can`t even watch `Escape from Sobibor`, but it does come highly recommended.

Hmmmmmmm i think a trip to the cinema might be in order.
Just can't get over how dumb Bush is made to look.....can he really be so stupid? One interesting fact mentioned is that all ex presidents are entitled to receives securiity bulletins from the CIA - but Bush senior's the only one to ever take this up. Whose in charge? This film really does make the current president of the USA look like a puppet.
(me being utterly cynical of the motives of 99% politicians - power corrupts does it not?)
Power corrupts ...
Absolute power corrupts absolutely!
This kind of manipulation has been known to have gone on since Man first learnt to record the daily events of life. Yes, I am very cynical but I also have no doubt that the people of Iraq are better off with the absolute power of their own particular madman would brought such misery and fear and humilation to his own people- as would a few other nations, the people of which are still living in misery, fear and humilation from some bloke who decided to add a bunch of scrambled egg to his hat and strut around.
Maybe the situation will make those of us who live in a democracy - where we are free to complain about our polictians openly AND in public AND in the press - thank their lucky stars.
NB - I am NOT defending Bush here, promise!!
Yes I have just seen it and yes I agree it is slanted but the facts are more powerful than the slant. especially the fact that 26 of Bin laden's family were allowed to fly out of the USA the day afer 9/11 when there USA was a no fly zone. Plusd the comments of the FBI guy who said that is a suspect cannot be located the first rule of criminal investigations is that you interview his/her family. i think this says it all. Oh forgot about Bandy Bush the Saudi ambassador to States practically living with Bush. Won't spoil it for thiose who haven't seen it but watch out for George W's golf drive. In the words of the immortal John McEnroe, "YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS"
A great film, shoud be essentail viewing for all Americans before they vote later this year.
I thought the most poigniant moment was the mother who had lost her son in Iraq, she had encouraged both him and his sister to join the forces as there were no other job prospects!!
Doubt she will ever forgive herself for that.
Shame the film didnt investigate Tony Blair as well.
Hopefull neither Bush or Blair will survive their next elections.
Maybe I am wrong but their is a really old film maybe the same title about burning books and having no written down stuff? I am sure it is very similar in the name? The trouble with these real life issue and thought provoking things is that many people are so wrapped up in made up characters and the likes they just dont find factual stuff enough?
JUST EDITED THIS>>>
The film is called the same but not 911 after it but 451...
ironical..but an old film which has some weirdness yet truths?
Jags quote of absolute power corrupts absolutely is wholly true.
In acknowledging that Iraq has lost a despotic and tyrannical ruler one must question the means by which this was brought about. The process of forming a coalition to achieve this end(or was it really the beginning?) was riddled with financial inducements such that it would no doubt have cost countries dear to refuse to join the assault force.
Of course the role of the United Nations in the whole process was callously and cynically undermined by the very powers that could have used it to bring a civilised solution to both the WMD issue and the systematic murder of Iraqui's by their own government.
Hans Blick was always right you know!
It has not gone unnoticed that whilst the states pledged oil revenues will accrue to the iraqui's the entire revenues for rebuilding Iraq will accrue to amercian companies...no one else was allowed to tender. Of course favours may be extended to bring back on board other wise damaging allies. C'est la vie. As is always the way the irony of this is that the iraquis themselves will end up paying for the war that has destrioyed so much. Not least of which is the truth.
And why do we allow Israel to commit state murder without them being bought to task for cynical elimination of their balance the palestinians devalue the validity of their political voice by the evil murder of innocents. Why does the USA still support the Israelies ?
Sorry about my rant...I do so hate the abuse of power by the obscenely rich.
I haven't yet seen the film although I fully intend to .. no doubt Michael Moore will give us less than a balanced view which he will present very eloquently and powerfully and we must use our own rationale to filter out the truth between the spin on both sides . Thank heavens he is prepared to do it though ....becuase I for one am not sure I would have the balls to do it.
