After two weeks on Sh this is what I think
1) Everyone is very welcoming and warm hearted
2) The Cafe is a good place to hang out, I like the way there's a wide variety of subjects to gab about, bit like bein in the pub
3) It's funny, amusing, inane, warped - informed, comradely and supportive.
4) It's a shame more people who post don't have an add
5) Sometimes it's hard to tell what's banter, innuendo or downright "Cum on babe" lol
6) I got a couple of nice pm's from people - Thanks
7) The photo adds section doesn't really work unless you keep modifying your add to push it up the list - not allowed!!!
8) I don't like the lets meet up forum it's too abrupt, got too many single poster "my place half an hour" type things goin on.
9) I can see how newbies might feel a little shy as quite a lot of the folks in the Cafe actually know each other real time.
10) I got an invite to the Pie Eaters do
11) I'm going to a club 2morro nite with someone I met off here
12) A single bi fem playmate (we're not life partners) has now agreed to add with me as a couple after watching for a bit and realising it's pretty cool here.
13) I just wish Basil and Cybil would let me cum on here a bit more instead of making me serve drinks and put fires out.

scandal, it is all those things, and more! welcome aboard once again! IMHO you are exactly right. the true heart of SH is right here in the cafe. the rest is . . . . . well it's my humble opinion right? it's just like school. we learn a bit, play a bit, get bullied a bit, but we have our own circle to pick us up and keep us going! ;)

i've only been posting a couple of days now, but i think i'm getting into the swing of things..i do feel the same as you, it does seem everyone knows everyone else, so that makes me feel a little awkward posting..it feels like i'm interupting a conversation...but then i think..hey what the hell, it's what a forum is for 
As you can see I don't post much, so two posts in less than 15 minutes for me is good going.
I have been a member now since July and just love the site. I love reading the Swingers Stories and looking through the Ads for possible meets. I haven't actually been brave enough to reply to any but I am sure the right ad will come up eventually.
Love reading the forum and reading everyone elses views, even though I don't post my own very often being a newbie type peep. I just get a little scared that folks might see me as a nuisance.
